Terrible animation quality?

Anyone else notice how bad this show looks at times? I kind of have the same problem with Bojack, although at least it has a distinct art style. I've been learning animation recently and it feels like they are just using rigging for almost everything which is a pretty lazy and ugly way of doing things.I can't in any way criticize the story as I haven't watched it all yet so this is not indicative of what my thoughts are on the show as a whole.

Lazy? Rigging isn't exactly lazy. But when you're working on a schedule for a series and a budget, then rigging is your friend. They're not trying to be Disney. There is a time and place for everything, that includes rigs.

It's pretty obvious they were going for a retro 70s vibe to go with when the show takes place. I see nothing lazy about that. Was a great stylistic choice IMHO.

Of course I am, I'm the goddamn Leonardo da Vinci of the modern animation industry. Honestly people should grovel at my feet for even the hope of replicating my impeccable talent.

I seem to recall Bill Burr talking about the price per minute of animated footage on Joe Rogan's podcast, which is where I first heard about this show, and how the price steeply rises when you want a lot of detail in the background etc.

After hearing about him talking about that I was wondering what the quality would be like considering there's a lot of really cheaply made cartoons for kids out there where the main characters appear to be digital cardboard cutouts slapped on a background and don't feel like they're a part of the world they're supposed to be in, with just enough lip/jaw movement to make them talk.

I feel F is for Family did good on the quality for the budget constraint they must've had for an unknown (in the animation world) to start out on his first cartoon.

Hope to see more seasons.

Saying terrible was kind of an over reaction. There are some nice shots in the show, it's just that when it's bad it's super noticeable and it kind of takes me out of it.

In 720p it's not that bad at all.

Go watch some old Mike Judge animation.

First season of King of the Hill.

budget restraints...esp the 1st season...Bob's Burgers got better after the 1st season, though this will always have a smaller budget.

~I see a little silhouette of a man, Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango.

it's fine... at least it doesn't look like everything else and it doesn't look really crappy like Southpark.

It isn't hand-drawn. It appears to be done digitally and that's why it looks kind of crappy. 2D animation built around puppetry in a piece of software never looks as good as hand-drawn stuff, but it's also considerably cheaper which is why it's becoming increasingly prevalent.

I didn't mind it too much on this show. It wasn't a hugely visual series and the low-key vibe didn't demand gorgeous animation to work.

I just really hope that Matt Groening doesn't agree to do anything less than hand-drawn for his new Netflix series.
