Is it really the last?

Have there really been no duels since app 1350?

reply

Its last for the loser.

reply

Jacques Le Gris?

Name is funny, because in Romanian, gris is a cereal similar to Cream of Wheat

reply

It was one of the last officially sanctioned (by the king) duel in France to determine the innocence or guilt of an accused criminal. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_de_Carrouges#Trial_by_combat

The last sanctioned duel might have been in 1547

reply

It is a silly way to attempt to determine guilt I think.

reply

I think that is why they stopped doing it. :) I suspect that many more people actually thought that god had a hand in stuff like that back then.

reply

They used to burn people at the stake to determine their guilt or innocence. By comparison, a duel to the death is practically logical

reply

Or drowning. Hmmmmm, if we dunk you under water and you die, that's clearly god's message that you were guilty.

reply

Lol Wikipedia.

You weren't there and are relying on a public document that was written by Carrouges ancestors.
