Colby

this was prob the dumbest scene in television history. the kid and him only had to walk 3 feet to the door but somehow got trapped by the horse. ug

this show went downhill so fast. thanks Kevin.

That horse ain’t Mr. Ed, son.
It can't be bargained with, it can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity! Or remorse or fear and it absolutely will not stop!... ever... until you are dead!

I wonder why the kid even had to enter the stall in the first place. They have hoses in that ranch. He could stand outside the stall and just use a hose to fill the bucket with water.

Even when he grabs the bucket and fills it with water, he doesn't have to go inside the stall to put the bucket in the farthest corner. Just put the bucket down right by the stall gate. Or while standing outside the stall, use a rake to push the bucket inside

And then when Colby sees the kid trapped - he should have shot the horse. The horse ended up dead anyways

I think the horse overturned the bucket so he couldn't fill it with a hose, but I totally agree with your point about him walking deep into the stall. I would probably have fished the bucket out with a broom handle and placed the bucket right inside the gate, or just gotten another bucket (there had to be at least one more on a ranch) and put it inside the gate like you suggest.

And then when Colby sees the kid trapped - he should have shot the horse. The horse ended up dead anyways

Colby was trying to rescue the kid and not have to shoot the horse. Hindsight being 20/20 he would have shot the horse first instead of getting kicked in the chest, but Colby had to die once he told Teeter he loved her!

and supposedly Colby is an expert Cowboy. and yet somehow he got trapped in a 4x6 stall with a door thats 3 feet wide? was thinking the same thing, grab a rake or pitchfork and push the horse back and let the kid get out. the whole killing off Colby scene made no sense and was pointless and didnt add anything to the story.

reply

I think what it added to the story was simply....what it added to the overall narrative:
A cowboy's life is not an easy one. And sometimes.....bad shit happens.
It didn't need to be any more plot-driven than that. Any more than when they had to deal with the rattlesnakes.

reply

Yeah, but it closed one of the more pointless storylines of the show (the Teeter/Colby romance).
