John Dutton ---

Is NOT the kind of person who would kill himself

AGREED!! But now we know for sure that Kevin Costner did not make a deal to appear in any of these Episodes. I think they were kind of letting us wonder and think that he made a deal to do a few episodes

Costner might still be in several episodes in flashback form leading up to his demise (I've heard nothing so that's only speculation).

I think it was smart to kill John Dutton off but I also think they should not use Costner in limited flashback appearances. The last episodes will carry the viewership without him but will also let them know if the remaining characters can carry the show without John Dutton or perhaps as a spinoff series with the rest of the cast.

Once viewers get used to seeing the Dutton kids, Rip, Lloyd, Teeter, etc. without Costner, they may go ahead with a direct spin-off of Yellowstone keeping the characters and ranch. Perhaps a season or two showing the transitioning of the Yellowstone ranch to commercial meat production as was hinted last season - a transition that would finally ensure Yellostone's survival for the rest of the century.

I would also like to see Rainwater and Mo get some of what they want - maybe part of the Dutton ranch. I mean, it's big enough certainly.

Wait i'm not caught up yet on the series. haven't even finished season 4 yet. Is that really how they exited the character. If so what a cop out. No way in hell would a character like john take the easy cowards way out.

reply

You really shouldn't be here if you aren't caught up, but let me just say that things are not always as they appear.

John Dutton is NOT the kind of person who would kill himself

Of course, but only the family really understands that - the public would buy that explanation.

The timing of his demise was exquisite - he killed himself on the first day of his impeachment hearings.

reply

Naa He always came across as the strongman that would fight for what he believed

I think the public would question a suicide

AND I doubt the impeachment process to to get rid of him scared him

reply

I think the public would question a suicide

'Certainly, but comes down to *degrees* of questioning what they've been told. For instance, I was in Manhattan on September 11th 2001 and saw a commercial jet plane hit the South tower with my own eyes, but today people question whether it was a plane, a missile, or a hologram I saw..

I'm sure there would be people who would question Dutton's suicide because they're, well, asshats who believe every conspiracy theory out there. Of course, sometimes asshats can be right, but that's a different issue. But how many question the suicide story is the question.

Beth was 100% sure he was assassinated, but Kayce had to be convinced his father didn't kill himself and even Jamie didn't know it wasn't a suicide until Sarah told him.

I agree, the impeachment process certainly didn't scare John Dutton, but the public would buy that it might have depressed him.

reply

It's all a bad dream. Costner is going to walk out of the shower in the last episode.

reply

It's basically the worst option the corporation decided on for John Dutton, heck an actual assassination would have had less suspicion.

John would never kill himself, and Montana knows it.

reply

Beth was the only one who knew John didn't kill himself, even Kayce and Jamie didn't know for sure.

The rest of Montana only knew John Dutton for a short time, and only what they saw in news conferences. If the "corporation" left no loose threads, then even if the federales were *convinced* John didn't kill himself, they could do nothing without evidence.

Absent a royal F-up by the corporation, only Sarah can really throw a monkey wrench into the works, and to be honest, I'd be scared shitless to cross the corporation.

It will be interesting to see if or how John's murder becomes known.
