Say what you will about Michael Bay
But the dude is unquestionably the best on this earth at filming an action sequence.

shareAgree
I mean, are there better directors? Of course, but when you see his name you just know its gonna be some amazing popcorn action sequences.
All dinosaurs fear the T-Rex
He is very talented on action scenes. With Transformers i feel like it is quantity before quality, but his old movies is some of my favorites in the action genre.
shareAgreed, and this film had some of his best action sequences. If he made more films like this it may change my opinion of him.
shareHave you never even seen a John Woo movie?
shareEh.
Notice how he emphasized (followed) the RPG - whatever that missile/grenade being dropped/shot/whatever in 13 hours, same as he did in Pearl Harbor - when the one bomb hits the USS Arizona?
I have my suspicions that Bay has a hard-on for following bombs or something.
Nah, I agree a little. He's an action director and I don't understand all the hate. That's what he does!
Typos courtesy of my not giving a *beep*.
With this film, he may have redeemed himself from that awful Pearl Harbor fiasco. I wonder if any of the Pearl Harbor vets walked out during the special showing Bay had for them. If I were one of those vets, I would have said, "Wow, what a *beep* movie of my time during Dec. 7th."
I personally never liked any of his movies, with the exception of armageddon. Yes it was super cliche but I liked the subject matter and some of the sequences, the rest? not so much, Pearl Harbor? don't get me started.
I always considered Michael Bay as a solid money grabber, soul-less human being with zero ability to direct.
I watched this movie expecting the worst and I was shockingly impressed. It was well directed with almost perfect fighting sequences, maybe a little on the long side but solid nevertheless.
Having him on such a low esteem from the start, the sole fact that I was impressed by the movie should speak volumes about his acomplishment.

Yea not really. Thats what he is good at, but hes not the best.
Steven Spielburg is a superior director and proves it with Saving Private Ryan which has better action sequences than any movie Bay has ever done. As someone else also stated Michael Mann, Mel Gibson, Ridley Scott and others are also capable of great action and war films, better directed than Bay. I like Bay too, besides his Transformers nonsense, when he sticks to story more, he ends up with a decent mix of story and action..but..the best ? No.
