Nah, we know what Tony's capable of.
Him fixing the Benatar (after learning about its tech from Nebula) would be credible but boring. It wouldn't be a callback to the cave so much as a retread.
What we got was more important to the narrative -- Tony coming to grips with losing Peter, losing the "infinity war," and finally losing his life in the depths of space, are what drive him throughout the rest of this film.
He needed that humility.
Being saved by Danvers, a near-literal deus ex machina, would just convince Tony further that he's living on borrowed time.
We don't need more "great Iron Man moments" at this point; we need to know why Tony would tap out for real, and what would bring him back into the fight.
