Has the MCU peaked?

When the journey was started 10 or so years ago no-one would likely have predicted the massive success these movies would be. As of right now, this franchise is responsible for 5 out of the top 10 highest grossing movies of all time. An incredible feat!

They now move onto a new set of movies with we assume, a new big bad. Is it possible to maintain the same level of success moving forward?

Interesting question. Who knows?

I believe that the Disney/Marvel will have to do some essential things to ensure the continuation of the franchise success.
Here are my bullet points for them:
1. Have a blueprint going forward - Choose what direction the franchise should go now, like Feige has done so well before
2. Good and fresh storytelling - They still have great characters (ex-Guardians, BP, Doc Strange), just need good scripts
3. Create some new twists - Perhaps surprising the audience more with unexpected but welcome story swerves
4. Stay away from social issues - It's a recipe for disaster if the MCU bows to the SJW crowd. Keep your fan base united
5. Continue to make good casting choices - overall the MCU has done a great job here, with only a few missteps

Now given everything I've outlined here, I think the biggest hole the MCU will have to fill is the departure of Robert Downey Junior. He has been - hands down - the soul of the MCU and they are going to have to make sure he's replaced with a strong actor/actress who can carry a franchise the way he did. Let's face it, nobody is like RDJ. He ate up every second of screen time in all the movies (10 where he played either Iron Man, Tony Stark or both) and had a presence that no other character has had. The need to choose wisely in this regard.

Even with everything, it will be very hard to reel off another 22 movie franchise that has had this much success, even if you call it a continuation of the MCU but man... what a freaking ride!!!

Great advice...especially #4.

Totally agreed with the 5th point. Keep going with the best cast and look for another great leader like RDJ. Even if that actor won’t be Iron Man.

Now from what I’ve heard we are going to get three Iron Man and 3 Captain America in the MCU future how will it go?

Marvel plans to bring: Dark Avengers, Young Avengers and new Avengers.

Meaning three characters will carry on the mantles of Iron Man and Cap.

In dark Avengers will get Norman Osborn known in the comics as Iron Patriot and Captain America will be Bullseye
In Young Avengers Iron Man will be a kid called Iron Lad and Cap will now be a kid with the superhero name of Patriot
And I guess in new Avengers Iron Man will be Rhodey as War Machine or maybe will use the tittle of Iron Man and Sam Wilson will be Captain America.

Yes, without a doubt.

EG is the peak for all CBMs.

Book it.

It's definitely peaked. Won't be the same without Ironman and Cap, Hulk ruined and Thor a jokey space Guardian. None of the other characters have much pizazz. Spiderman needs another reboot.

Looks like X-Men will pass them by -- Dark Phoenix looks great. (it sure won't be DC.)

For me personally it peaked with The Avengers. I still enjoyed Age of Ultron and a couple of the other movies, but that was the peak. I haven't watched most of the new ones because I'm finding them repetitive and boring. I really hated Infinity War; I think it's a bad movie. I haven't seen Endgame. I assume that if I didn't care for IW, I won't like Endgame.

reply

Same. Yes Endgame was just more of the same. Plus the time travel was stupid and messy.

I believe it will go down hill and be less popular. That's based on evidence I've observed.

All of their coming films are unimportant and that will create a decline.

Most of us went to see Marvel films that weren't good, Captain Marvel, Antman, the first Thor film, the 2st and 3nd Iron Man, just because they were part of the Avengers storyline. At times it was even worth sitting through the film to watch the end scenes hinting at what was coming next. The movies were a duty to watch.

Comic books worked like that too. When an important story was happening you had to get all the parts of the story.

Meanwhile, standalone comics can be boring unless the writing is very good. The same goes for these movies. If it's just Black Panther, etc then the movie will either be good, medium, or bad and be judged only on its merits. Likely, stand alone movies will not be epic, and so it will cause a decline in interest.

Marvel needs to get on another continuing story, now.

DC failed to make an epic saga and actually gave up on bringing Darseid in for some insane reasons. So Justice League failed.

Another company wanted to make standalone films about Dracula, the Mummy, etc and make them superheroes, but they didn't bring that togather fast enough and it failed.

No saga, no success.

It peaked a long time ago for me. It's gotten sillier and sillier since Guardians of the Galaxy...
