You're right. Gal Gadot was positively oozing charisma after the release of WW and has done very little in the way of raising feminist issues. And she still copped a huge amount of flack from a lot of people - many of whom refused to see WW because they had already decided that the film was too feminist. It's only because of Gadot's charming personality and conventional attractiveness that people eventually gave in - and lo and behold, actually enjoyed the film. Some still haven't, and are still against it.
So. Why shouldn't Brie Larson say whatever the fk she wants? She was going to be mistreated either way. It's not her job to win people over to see a movie - it's up to marketing teams to market well, and us viewers to decide what we want to see. Also, Captain Marvel is also a really great movie. Nothing she's said has damaged that.
