So...some of you say Disney "runs the media"...

...and they have a higher percentage of their films under perform or flop than any other major studio.

Hey look! There's two more expensive flops on the immediate horizon called "Dumbo" and "Aladdin".

For a company with so much supposed power, they sure don't know how to use it effectively or competently.

Thank you for posting that. These monopolies need broken up.

reply

While that is true, I'm more concerned about the social media monopolies, such as Google, Facebook, and Twitter. They have been beating out competition behind the scenes for years and have now each turned into evil, digital empires that stamp out opposition any way they can.

reply

Agreed. Funny how the Democrat Party needs to control all news sources and social media. And downright creepy.

“Dumbo” and “Aladdin” aren’t going to flop, bro.

The live-action “Beauty & The Beast” and “The Jungle Book” made insane amounts of money.

Why do you think they are remaking “The Lion King”?

These live-action remakes sell. People go crazy for CGI.

reply

We'll see.

If I had to bet money, my gut tells me they will both be money-losers.

reply

No money? Perhaps you lose all your bets.

Jungle Book (2016):

Budget $175 million
Box office $966 million

Beauty & The Beast (2017):

Budget $160–255 million
Box office $1.264 billion

Yes...and if you think Dumbo and Aladdin are going to pull those kinds of numbers in you're nuts.

reply

It indicates there is an enormous market for "Dumbo" and "Aladdin", since the previous Disney live-action adaptions made around $1 billion each.

As the previous poster mentioned, this is why Disney green-lit the upcoming "The Lion King" and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame". Disney would be "nuts" not to continue making these hugely profitable films.

That was then and this is now. Nothing is static. The market and audience tastes constantly change. People have gotten very familiar with this "live action remake" idea and it's no longer the "event" it was 2-3 years ago.

While not exactly the same thing but still in the same wheelhouae, Disney has gotten tepid results from Pete's Dragon, Christopher Robin and even a sequel to Mary Poppins.

There is very little buzz or excitement surrounding Dumbo compared to what Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast enjoyed and Aladdin...it's being viciously torn apart on social media and is being released on Disney's notoriously cursed Memorial Day weekend.

Once again, outside of Marvel, it really seems that Disney can't do anything right these days.

reply

lol ....

care to give a prediction on the Lion King?

reply

Yes...Beauty and the Beast was a huge hit but that doesn't mean these two films will be. There was buzz and excitement surrounding that film from a year out.

These two films aren't generating generating any heat whatsoever and the response to Aladdin so far has been dire.

I'm sure both films will carry the usual 200 million dollar Disney price tag as well.

reply

but their hits really over-perform and cover for the flops

reply

Yes...their MARVEL hits do. After Avengers 4, having hits big enough to cover the flops may prove to be more difficult.
