A question for lovers and haters alike...
Would you want to see Disney Star Wars make an Obi-wan film?
Much to my surprise I'd say yes - but only if EM was in it (of course).

As compared to Solo, Boba Fett, etc., yes, because I like the Jedi stuff. But I won't pay to see anything produced by this version of Lucasfilm.
shareAs soon as they fire all current management and the story group of SJW hacks, and replace them with competent professionals, I will support an Obi wan movie and even sequels to Solo.
shareGod no, not with SJW Disney. Yes with Lucas or a studio not so obsessed with Western social issues.
shareAnd who would be that?
Right now 99% of Hollywood is either very SJW or a bit SJW. Modern Star Wars is in the 'very' side, but that only makes the rest less guilty in comparison, which is not the same as innocent.
There's very few directors that don't follow the SJW tropes. I'd say Nolan, Eastwood, Woody Allen, Mel Gibson and perhaps a few more. And that's it. Some of them are almost retired, other ones are banned. At the end of the day, SJW has become The Official Must-Have Thought in Hollywood.
Well I'm sure the world is waiting for the Gynophobic Incels to start making movies, which will probably be really boring sausage fests.

They do on a regular basis. It's called Hollywood. Rian Johnson is a perfect example.
Depends on who the director and stars are.
shareHave you learned nothing? The only thing Disney will do is to find creative ways to screw it up.
shareI don't doubt it!
And in a perfect world somebody with talent and passion would buy up Lucasfilm and then make Star Wars films that aren't targeted for the ADHD tumblr crowd.
But until that happens...
I just think this is the last story worth telling within Star Wars. A Bobafet movie is a terrible idea, the current story is now dead, yes they can fast forward 500 years but then what's the connection going to be to Star Wars? It'll just be a sci-fi/fantasy film with lightsabers. EM was the best thing about the prequels and he's the right age. And it could be a fantastic story if it's done right: he's a broken man, he's lost everything, he wanders the wastes until he finds meaning and purpose again etc etc. It could be a chance to deconstruct Star Wars in the *right* way, not RJs cringe inducing 'Gotcha' style: no space battles, no Empire, no Rebels - just an examination of a great character, portrait by a great actor.
"he's a broken man, he's lost everything, he wanders the wastes until he finds meaning and purpose again etc etc. It could be a chance to deconstruct"
Please no. I had enough of that anti-Jedi deconstruct stuff with Jake Skywalker and OT rehashes.
There is plenty of great material in the EU that they could use since Lucasfilms obviously lacks creativity:
*The Jedi Sith Wars during the Old Republic (centuries ago) would be good. New characters with hundreds or thousands of Jedi and Sith at war. Create a few new main characters.
*The betrayal and beginnings of the first Sith Lord who broke with the Jedi.
*The Mandalorian Wars.
The beginning of the Jedi Order and how they helped form democracy throughout the galaxy.
'Deconstruct' was a poor choice of word. 'Original' would have been a better choice. And it wouldn't be anti-jedi, just the opposite. But given where the story is at this point it would by necessity be quite bleak (at least at the beginning).
shareThe "deconstruct" and "anti-Jedi" story is exactly what Johnson was doing which is one of the reasons why there was such a strong reaction against it. Hamill himself said that Jedi are supposed to be positive and optimistic. They never give up. A brooding Jedi is really a Sith or dark Jedi like Kylo who constantly whines, complains and lashes out.
I'm not sure why the story would need to be bleak. Obi-wan in A New Hope didn't appear depressed or beaten even though the circumstances were difficult. Obi-wan was just biding his time & waiting for an opportunity (through Luke) which is a Jedi thing to do
Instead of changing the Star Wars universe, Disney should try to create original stories within it.
Yes, provided this gets a quality script for once not creating plot holes, and EM plays Obi Wan. Mangold would be great here, who needs a Boba Fett movie?
Obi Wan could have subtle Vader-inclusions by having Obi realize that Anakin survived, but without fight.
Sure!
Of all the characters likely to get their own sub-franchuse he's the most interesting, and the most proof agsinst the kind of casting errors that ruined "Solo". McGregor is a fine actor and can carry a series of films, and the fandom seems to like him as much as they like anything that came after 1984.
