eh...alden has the personality of a beach boll.

reply

What's a boll?

reply

Something on a beach!

reply

Perhaps he means an Uwe Boll....

reply

I'm less jazzed about the full trailer than the teaser. One thing is clear from the little we've seen, he doesn't have Ford's cocksure confidence. It's possible his Solo will come off more like an arrogant prick without the cool demeanor.

reply

he looks like a guy reading his lines and i agree the teaser looked a lot better.

reply

Yeah, it's a trailer. Could be a fun movie, but I'm feeling the cliches.

reply

Cliche is what StarWars fans want... Any significant departure will be met with "Not my Star Wars" calls...

reply

It was mostly that "I'm putting together a crew" moment.

reply

Yeah not Star Wars cliches...or fan service...just run of the mill cliches found in any modern action adventure flicks.

reply

Exactly. But the foundation for the movie was laid by the guys who did Lego movies, and those movies survive by using and (at times) mocking basic cliches.

I guess that's why they were fired, because their Lego Movie tactic was making this movie into a parody.

reply

I don't think it's either/or. It is possible to satisfy fans with new content. Just requires more effort and quality.

reply

It could be anything. The trailer is mainly some CGI shots and some ambient/environment shots, which would fit any space opera movie.

The main characters are highly unrepresented in the trailer, beyond some quick images and selfie poses, which suggests that the rumors about the lack of chemistry and awful acting must be true...

reply

I think the teaser was better, less is more kind of thing. My opinion of it probably dropped a little with more of the lead in the trailer.

reply

The teaser was shorter. If you have 1 minute of good shots in the movie, you take all of them and make a good 1 minute teaser.

This trailer was longer. And still was under two minutes, unusually short for a AAA movie trailer... which suggests the rest of the footage must be even worse.

reply

"Look behind you, a four armed monkey!"

reply

Three headed monkey was the line I believe.

reply

Vader?

reply

He's using a blaster, and the helmet looks different, so I'd say it's probably not Vader.

That looks more like it's based directly on the character who inspired Vader's design: https://listverse.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/1-lightning-vader.jpg

That's Lightning, from The Fighting Devil Dogs.

reply

It looks like he might have ripped the blaster from the hand of the other dude.

reply

Possibly. I like that blaster because it looks like a little sawed-off shotgun.

Anyway, if you pause the video right when the guy is turned and firing the blaster, his helmet has a brim on the front, like a baseball cap, and he seems to have gray chest plate armor. I also paused it when he's lit by a blaster shot in front of him, and he definitely has a gun holster on his hip.

I wish I was at home, I could load these two screenshots to Imgur or something.

reply

Oh here, you can see the character better on this page. Also, there is a shot with Emilia Clarke in a bar, looking toward the camera, and it looks like she might be standing with this same character.

You're probably right. Red herring.
