shareHa, good old Baz, never one to undersell himself!
shareIt's a mess of a film but then all of his films are a mess.
shareGreat article. This is the kind of film Elvis would have loved to have been in I think. And definitely see the Pop Cultural Opera thing. I really want to see the 4 hour cut just to see what was removed from the story and to just see more Austin as Elvis. I don't mind all the artistic license used as it helps show the audience how insane his life/career has been and think Baz did a great job bringing fans of all ages to see the film and revitalizing everyone's love for Elvis and bringing in new fans into the mix.
and Elvis was such a good actor. It really is a shame he was never given the chance to do more. I just watched 'King Creole' last night and it was sooooo goood. HE was soooo gooood. And then I watched 'Frankie and Johnny' and loved it. He really had a great collection of diverse characters and it's a shame they were stuck in pop musicals. I'm really enjoying the journey through his films.
I decided to rewatch the older Elvis movies, starting with the 2 part, 2005 movie. It has tons of details that were not in this new Elvis movie, for those who want details. It starts with high school and ends in 1968. This movie talks about Elvis's screen test for the Rainmaker with Burt Lancaster. I had a movie mag with scenes from this audition. Earl Holliman was cast instead. It would have been great if that was his first film instead of Love Me Tender. I have long thought King Creole was his best movie. Also great were Flaming Star, Loving You and Wild in the Country.
