First, this movie was written by the Coen brothers, and I think the humour was incredibly well done. It wasn't over the top; instead, it was sprinkled in just enough to add levity to specific scenes. Plus, the best dramas all incorporate some comedy; you can't have lows without the highs. As for Tom Hanks acting: I think he is one of the best actors, if not the best actor working today, he can say more with one expression than most actors could say with ten lines of dialogue. Many of his movies require him to carry the movie, they aren't packed with action or special effects; they are character driven movies and plots that require incredible performances to make them as poignant as they are. He picks the kind of roles where, when you try to imagine any other actor playing the role; you couldn't imagine the movie being as good with anyone else in that role. I usually feel that actors get far too much credit for a movies success, and directors and especially writers don't get enough credit for making a movie great. Tom Hanks is on a very short list of actors I consider deserve all the credit they get.
