Why do we need a disaster movie from Norway?

While I really liked the wonderful camerawork and of course the scenery, I'm still asking myself: Why do we need a disaster movie from Norway?

I mean, it's something like Dante's Peak in Northern Europe. Without Pierce Brosnan but with stupid dialogues.

reply

We don't need any movie. What's your point?

And Dante's Peak sucked.

I think if you have been to Norway and been thru the fjords you could appreciate it more than the average viewer.

reply

Holy Cow! What difference does it make?

I'm from the states and I found the premise quite interesting specifically because it shows a different locale and a different type of disaster.

No issues with the movie at all, though definitely use subtitles rather than the english dubbed version. The dubbing is right up there with 60s Godzilla movies.

I don't know that we need one, but I'm glad I caught this. I mean, I think it's a hell of a lot better than, say, "2012" or "San Andreas."

Way to embarrass your fellow Americans.

Because it's not an American movie, you have an issue with its existence? Because you're not Norwegian, you don't think this movie should've been made? It's very close-minded to question why another country would make a disaster movie. American cinema isn't the only one that exists. Other countries are allowed to make movies, too, and it doesn't mean that this one in particular is a Norwegian Dante's Peak. It's a movie in its own right.

reply

We don't need a disaster movie from Norway or from anywhere, for that matter. I found the movie to be interesting, especially the fact that it was made in a foreign country. The scenery in Norway was beautiful and it was quite enjoyable. It's interesting to learn about another part of the world than what's in your own backyard.

What kind of crap question was this?

List the countries that are approved to make disaster films and make it official my Lord.

reply

I don't understand comments like this. We don't need disaster movies at all. But this was unique. Norway has fjord's in and the potential for landslides + tsunami's in a way most countries do not. Beautiful setting, good acting, and a unique geological set up makes for a fresh movie.

You don't have to watch it, but I saw it twice and loved it. It was well done and a good movie is a good movie, no matter where it is from. be grateful for a good disaster film instead of another San Andreas or 2012 (fine but predictably bloated and overblown).
