Are there any Trump supporters who watch this show?

If you support Trump, what do you think of Oliver and his show? What got you to watch this show when he seems to be against many of policies and viewpoints of a Trump/Republican supporter? Just curious and would like to know, thanks for anyone who replies.

reply

Does Trump champion the viewpoint of the Republican party? I would've voted right for anyone other than Trump. He turned it into the definite lesser of two evils situation for me. I know other staunch republicans who voted for Clinton too.

reply

No, I think the Republican party cringed everytime they had to show him support. But that is the flaw of the system, which Oliver so keenly pointed out. That even though Trump was despised by everyone in the party, they still vouched for him because of party loyalty, regardless of professional and personal feelings.

I also noticed that a lot of voters that I know personally, voted for Trump seemingly only because he was a Republican and they always vote Republican. Another flaw, but this one is within each individual voter. Unlike you, many people vote for the party, regardless of the candidate.

REALLY? watch how easy this is...

That even though CLINTON was despised by everyone in the party, they still vouched for HER because of party loyalty, regardless of professional and personal feelings.

bernie bros are currently rioting in the streets in support of clinton...

No, you're not. You're troll that tried to troll me in that gun control thread.

From you on that thread:
not even the M16 was designed to kill. it was designed to INJURE.

Do me a favor and don't bother replying to me. I don't buy a word you say and I've already concluded in my head that you're a sniveling loser who needs attention on message boards.

reply

yes i am.

You're troll that tried to troll me

just because you disagree with someone, that doesn't make them a troll

also, YOU responded to ME, so that would make you the troll...

not even the M16 was designed to kill. it was designed to INJURE.

it wasn't PERIOD. i defended my position, as did the other guy that was supporting me. all you ever did was go "neener neener i don't like it" because you don't actually know the first thing about what you're trying to talk about

you're the loser that asks questions, and then insults those that provide you with answers you don't like.

block me then...or grow the F up.

Holy mother of god...........are you really this stupid? Do you not understand that EVERYTHING WE TALK ABOUT IT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC?? Seriously, your "neener neener" accusation can be LITERALLY read. There isn't a person in the world, other than your deluded self, that would buy anything you say. You've proven to be one of those, Internet Know-it-alls that basically pull sht out of their ass and have no idea what they're talking about.

And for those who want to see the real conversation he's talking about:

Judge for yourself if this guy sounds mentally hinged and knowledgeable.

this one quote, by you, sums up your stupidity and ignorance

Those rounds, are designed to kill, no matter where you're shot on the body. Meaning, I can shoot you in the leg, and that round will some how work it's way to the gut and still kill you.

let's try this again, in your mind, how exactly would this work?

Listen 11B, do you really want me to embarrass you? You're no infantry man, you know nothing about what you're talking about, and you're annoying me to the point where I'm one click from adding you to my ignore list.

at impact velocities above roughly 762 m/s (2,500 ft/s), it may yaw and then fragment at the cannelure (the crimping groove around the cylinder of the bullet).[15] These fragments can disperse through flesh and bone, inflicting additional internal injuries.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5.56%C3%9745mm_NATO

For a split second, the cavity created inside the human body by the round from an M-16/M-4 is about the size of a basketball (if hit dead center of mass). The 5.56 creates this massive cavitation by tumbling through the body initiated by inherently unstable flight.

---------

When the 5.56 round was first designed by Remington, it was meant to tumble through a target, not kill with brute force. It did this not only by the relatively blunt shape, but also by using a rifle barrel with less of a twist.

Next time you decide to steal valor and pretend to be a vet, remember that real vets do read these and will call you out when you talk out of your ass.

PLEASE PUT ME ON IGNORE. your wiki articles are complete BS

i wish could meet you in person. tell me i'm stealing valor to my face, that way i can kick the ever living *beep* out of you

Yay, another internet tough guy who makes threats under the safety of anonymity from behind his computer.

P.S. My facts prove you're a lying and stealing valor. You never served and if you did, you sure as hell weren't infantry.

reply

sigh, i did basic at ft benning, 2-58. was then transferred to ft lewis WA, 1-24. then transferred to yakima wa. served 1998-2002. had desert training at ft irwin, was the last unit to do jungle training in panama.

meanwhile, your "facts" are BS as is your statement that a bullet to the foot is going to move its way to your gut. that stupidity doesn't go away because you find a BS wiki quote that states a .223 leads to a basketball size hole. if you had ever served a day, you'd know how absurd and what BS that statement is.

i'm not an internet tough guy, i'm not even a particularly tough guy, but for you? i'd make an exception as you've been insulting my military service since you started trolling that other thread.

finally, all of this is meaningless, as you failed to acknowledge the very valid points i brought up in answering YOUR question:

what do you think of Oliver and his show?

i think he CAN be funny but not when he's being political. he has exposed many great injustices in this country and things that we most definitely need to change. that being said, his biases are ridiculous and if he had done just a single HONEST episode on hillary, i would have respected him more.

What got you to watch this show when he seems to be against many of policies and viewpoints of a Trump/Republican supporter?

yup, he's a bleeding heart liberal with all the biases and liberal rants that all right of center people have come to accept from hollywood/media. if we stopped watching because of politics, we'd have nothing left to watch on tv....liberals boycott, conservatives go about their lives.

to answer the other part of your question, it was the episode on civil forfeiture, then i went back and watched them all. again, when he stays away from political mudslinging, he's usually quite funny and fairly accurate.

but instead of engaging in any sort of civil discussion, you once again engaged in ad hominem attacks. why did you even start this thread? why ask questions if you're not remotely interested in an answer? clearly, all you're looking for is people to agree with you. grow up AND BLOCK ME if you can't handle an opposing view

I'm not interested in any answer from you. I'll happily engage in the topic at hand with others. You're more than welcome to never reply to me again. Bye.

you're a child that only wants to engage in topics with people that agree with you

fyi - if you're going to claim to be a vet you should at least understand what stolen valor is, as you haven't gotten it right once. you love wiki so much, take a moment to actually look it up.

reply

John Oliver might be a hack comedian, but the show does cover a lot of interesting topics.

reply

I was undecided until the last debate. But I started watching Oliver this past season, and his takes on subjects other than US presidential candidates are usually quite interesting and informative. I'm sure he doesn't get things right 100%, but he definitely provides food for thought.

Plus, I think he's funny, and kind of cute. 😊

reply

I do agree, that his investigative journalism is interesting, and yes, somewhat bias, which may skew facts in a certain way. But a lot of people are like that, and that's why shows are either conservative or liberal. I think, complete objective, non-bias journalism is dead. Now you choose what "type" of news you want to hear/read about.

Did you end up voting for Trump or decide he wasn't the right fit? And was your decision based on what you saw/heard from the show?

reply

I did vote for Trump.

Shows like Last Week Tonight, Full Frontal, and Real Time influenced me to a certain extent, in that they hammered away so mercilessly at Trump and his supporters that they cast them as the underdogs getting beaten up by the bullies in the playground. I wonder if they realize that they just took it too far. I know that the shows are technically comedies and as such, satire and sarcasm will be abundant, but yikes.

I watch all those lefty shows, but I like $2 a gallon

Yeah remember when gas prices skyrocketed under Bush and all of the accusations by The Left that Bush and Cheney were lining the pockets of their friends in Texas....

It's OK if it happens under a Democrat Administration.

reply

i'm a libertarian, that didn't vote for trump (or hillary). i'm also an infantry vet that served under the first clinton, and so i'm happy that trump beat that lying piece of crap that would have been another four years of a clinton in charge of the military. if there is one fact i know above all else is that the clintons have ZERO respect for those that serve.

John Oliver basically (or literally if I'm not mistaken) ignored Hillary Clinton until September. She was never featured, barely mentioned in any episode. We never saw a quote from her until September!!! Amazing and revealing. Hillary was not often seen campaigning, and when she would, it was often very underwhelming, just like her candidacy. Why didn't he at least push for Bernie? Probably because his boss' boss' boss is behoven to another ring of bosses, and those bosses would have no one other than Hillary. Oliver is a wonderful mouthpiece and cares for humanity I believe, but what I know in my heart is that humanity was saved by the expulsion of the old political crime families. Let the Trump (crime?) syndicate commence! And burn down those #Pizzagate *beep* forever!

PIZZAGATE IS REAL

reply

Now that it's clear that Trump and his supporters want to surround themselves with only yes men and women, I'd be shocked if any Trump supporters watched this show.

reply

I'm a Trump supporter, but no loyalist to anything. Eat your idols and all that. Question everything. John's show has become typical liberal fest bias, and not even just about Trump stuff. But that's where the ratings gold mine is these days. Many of his "facts" are oversimplified statements to suit his comedic agenda, but are in fact made of many complicated pieces and issues. Been a lifetime watcher of late night programs, and have watched shows like Daily Show and the like from their inception. Watching them slowly turn from good natured ribbing to hate rallys has been a hell of a thing to witness. There was a long time when these comedy news shows really were the only place you could get the real news, and the people that pull the strings got wise to that. I always loved Oliver's segments on Daily Show, and his time guest hosting were better than any shows Stewart had done in years, as he turned into an angry crabby old man. John's first year hosting this show was mostly brilliant, while certainly slanted and driven by agenda. But in the second season, things got a lot more shitty as he began using the weight of his show to actually attack organizations and essentially began creating news instead of commenting on it, and the pieces got a hell of all of lot more "Michael Moore". And now it's a total circus. I don't enjoy the program at all anymore, and the in depth analysis of corrupt and broken institutions and laws is basically non-existent. Just one more program dedicated to mind manipulation of the impressionable youth. But I keep watching cause "know your enemy" and all that. I like to be informed on all sides of pretty much everything really. It seems to happen to everybody in the game. Remember when Bill Maher's old Politically Incorrect show was a lively open minded debate about stuff? And now he's like an angry college professor ranting at you. Political comedians have an expiration date. Even George Carlin turned nutso eventually. Politics makes people insane.

reply

if i had to pick my favorite lie out of that bunch, i think it would be "I like to be informed on all sides of pretty much everything really."
