Maybe to a five-year-old.

reply

Maybe you're a 5 year old. This was scarier than most modern horror movies.

reply

Can't tell if your a troll or just didn't watch mordern horror films.Or you watched films you thought were horror.Or maybe the wrong "horror" films.

reply

Neither. Most modern Horrors aren't scary.
But the megalaphobia and hydrophobia elements of the goddess and water were terrifying in the theater.
Dumbass

reply

Easily scared then.I find the film is ok considering it is kid oriented. If i dont see kids crying or screaming i dont think anyone would find it "scary".Am to your comments of dumbass i like to point out that you were scared by a PG kids film.

reply

Easily scared then
Nope. This was just scary.
Scarier than the other Disney movies.
It was even scarier than Life of Pie, with the way things did with the water.

reply

OK. Don't get it. In no way was any of this scary and I am easily frightened. Don't watch horror films for that reason.

But please, pray tell, HOW was Life of Pi (that horrible horrible movie) scary??? Bad yes. Stupid, yes. but not scary.

reply

Already explained.

reply

Plus the giant green goddess part was supposed to be glorious.

reply

Sorry if i offended you.I am just curious to find out why a person is scared by a PG kids film but not a PG13/R horror film.Seems wierd to me.Sure some scenes are tense but scary in no way and i think that you are over thinking some of the scenes like the ocean playing with moana as a baby.I thought you were a troll as your opinion was unheard of and not well reasoned.

reply

Sorry if i offended you.I am just curious to find out why a person is scared by a PG kids film but not a PG13/R horror film.
I already explained it. Raiting have very little to do with fear, and fear itself is subjective.
Moana's Ocean Terror and Megalaphobia elements make it scarier than most horror movies. Moana's scare moments were not "jump" scares. They were situational terror.
The OCEAN. BIG GODDESS. ETC

The Ocean playing with Moana as a baby wasn't scary watching on youtube. But in the theater it was very unsettling, with the rich sound and everything.

reply

Plus the giant green goddess part was supposed to be glorious.
It was "glorious"
It was also megalophobia and overwhelming. Every adult who I saw this with got unsettled at that part. It's very BIG, overwhelming and SCARY

reply

So let me guess? The Jolly Green Giant in the commercials scare you? She is supposed to represent (I think) Mother Earth. HOW is that scary? I don't get it.

reply

Megalophobia.

reply

TROLL... Who's probably 10.

reply

I would agree with you if it wasn't for:

Snow White (scary hag and attempted murder). I had to hide behind the couch whenever the queen showed up.

Pinocchio (Pinocchio gets threatened to get chopped into firewood, his friends get turned into donkeys and are sold into slavery to never be seen again, Monstro, Stromboli)

Fantasia: Night on Bald Mountain

Adventures of Icabod and Mr. Toad: Headless Horeseman!

Sleeping Beauty: Pretty much any scene with Maleficent, but especially the part where she lures Aurora to prick herself

The Black Cauldron: The Horned King is very scary, he tries to chop the head off an adorable pig and at the end raises an undead army to kill everyone.

The Little Mermaid: That final battle where Ursula gets huge and gets impaled by Eric scared me as a kid.

Aladdin: The Cave of Wonders is intense, as is Jafar — especially when he turns into a giant snake.

The Lion King: Simba nearly gets killed by hyenas in Elephant Graveyard. Mufassa gets MURDERED by Scar. Very intense final battle.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame: Within the first five minutes of the movie, Frollo murders Quasimodo's mother and tries to drown a baby. There is also attempted genocide, a musical number about hellfire and rape, a family getting locked in their house before it is set on fire and an innocent woman getting burned at the stake.

Hercules: The Hydra scene, Meg's "death" and Hercules swimming into the well of souls was pretty intense.

Mulan: Implied genocide and War violence.

Tarzan: The jaguar kills Tarzan's parents and is pretty scary. Clayton accidentally hangs himself.

The Princess and the Frog: Dr. Faciller's Voodoo and his ultimate demise at the hands of his "Friends on the Other Side" is pretty dark.

reply

Yeah but none of those are scary as an adult.
The Moana stuff is objectively unsettling as an adult. Like when you feel turbulance in a plane or suddenly drop and your stomach lifts up. Her flashing back to the ancient boats was also creepy.

reply

"The Moana stuff is objectively unsettling as an adult."

You clearly don't know what the word objectively means. It's kind of odd, considering earlier in the thread you said yourself that fear was subjective.

Regardless, this is not a scary movie. The only scenes that could even be considered scary wouldn't scare someone over the age of 3.

Finally, the ancient boats were not "creepy." That you think that tells us you weren't paying attention to the movie at all.

reply

False. It was scary. You are objectively incorrect.
Or you saw it in a theater with crap sound.
If you are not 3 then it did scare you. A child wouldn't comprehend the terror.
Accept it, b!tch.

reply

How is the ocean playing with her as a baby scary at all?

Have you ever noticed that the people who say "DC is for adults and Marvel is for kids", are kids?

reply

How is the ocean playing with her as a baby scary at all?

Because it's the terrifying ocean luering a baby deeper and deeper into it.
I was shocked at how unsettling and dark it felt in the theater with the rich sound effects.

reply

The music in the scene the playfulness of the water, the bright colors. Every single bit of it was to point in the opposite direction of being scary. You could edit the scene and make it absolutely terrifying. However the way it was shown was not scary in any fashion or sense of the word. There was nothing dark or foreboding about the girl following brightly colored seashells laid by the water after she saved the turtle. In fact it came across that the ocean was praising her for her deed, which it was. The message conveyed there was in no way scary.

Unless. You are afraid of the ocean, water, or swimming in general. IN which case this entire movie would scare the pants off of you. Especially when they go to the land of monsters. There is nothing but water above their heads the impending idea that they could down at any moment would be lingering.

Again that's only if you have a sever fear of water, ocean, or swimming. If so I have no idea what you were doing in this movie to begin with to be honest.

I've baited my hook with my own underwear. Is it wrong that I hope to catch a fish I can relate to?-Ragdoll.

It started out like that, but then she got lured closer and closer in. The ocean was getting darker in color as well. and it started making groaning noises like a stomach.

reply

You have completely misunderstood the entire scene. The ocean wasn't luring Moana, it was giving her gifts and playing with her, and as we saw throughout the film, never had any intentions whatsoever of harming her. Furthermore, you can't get closer in the ocean; either you're in it or not.

The ocean was getting darker in color as well.

Of course it was, because that's what water does. However, the colors were vibrant, meant to show off the wonders of the ocean and the life within it. Kind of like an aquarium.

and it started making groaning noises like a stomach.

No, it didn't.

reply

I didn't misunderstand it. I'm explaining the vibe it gave.
And yes it did make stomach noises.

reply

If you think that the vibe in that scene was one of darkness, fear, or foreboding, then you clearly misunderstood it. You're wrong on this issue.

But again, be afraid of a kids movie, that's fine. It's different, of course. Not normal and somewhat odd actually. But that's one of the things that makes the world so great, right?

reply

I understood it. It still gave off a terror vibe.
You're clearly wrong. Deal with it b!tch. Obviously you worked on the film and are sad you created a terror monstrosity of a hungry ocean.
This sh!t was scarier than Jaws.

Nice kids movie bro. This horror show makes Alien look fetus friendly.

reply

You're clearly wrong

I'm curious why you think I'm wrong when you are the only one on this board (and probably in the world) who feels the way you do. Where is your disconnect here?

For instance, you keep saying the ocean is scary, or is a monster. I presume you've seen the film, right? Because the movie presents the ocean as a sentient guardian/guide wanting to help Moana.

When Moana kept getting knocked off the boat, the ocean saves her.
When Moana commanded the ocean to allow Te Fiti to come to her, the ocean obeyed.
When Moana fell asleep and was drifting off course and the ocean woke her to get her back on course.

I've wasted my time on you though, haven't I? Like I said initially, you're clearly a troll, and my guess is a young one at that. Bye.

reply

I already told you why moron. Those scenes you mentioned are different scenes.
And you are the ONLY one who feels this way. Not me. You just have dupe accounts.
Pathetic

reply

OK. Quit with the name calling. Obviously you are a sad little troll with nothing better to do. As i said below, you are in need of some SERIOUS therapy if you in any way think this movie was scary. Empowering? Yes. Scary? He||'s to the no.

No, my 5 year old in the theatre started to get very unsettled at this and I lent over and asked her "Do you think it's a trap?". When she said "Yes" I had to assure here that I thought the ocean was just being friendly and there wasn't anything to worry about (even I wasn't 100% sure about that one).

I don't think it was very scary, but just to be fair to OP, there were two ways to interpret what was going on in this scene.

reply

That is beyond interesting because all I saw was joy and happiness there. Granted I don't have the mind of a 5 year old so I guess there's that.

I've baited my hook with my own underwear. Is it wrong that I hope to catch a fish I can relate to?-Ragdoll.

reply

Did you not get that the ocean was her "Friend"? You my friend need some serious therapy.

reply

I got it. It was still creepily done.

reply

Grow up, loser.

reply

Really? Interesting.

The villainy you teach me I will execute-and it shall go hard but I will better the instruction.

reply

I don't think there's a single Disney animated film I would ever consider scary...maybe Chicken Little given how scary bad it is. 

"If life is getting you down and needs uplifting, then please come dance with me!"

reply

Apocalypto is a Disney movie
Although that wasn't scary imo

reply

Nah they've done scarier

reply

Scarier than Nightmare Before Christmas?

reply

The Nightmare Before Christmas poster TERRIFIED me as a child. Seeing it on the Blockbuster window.

Moana is unsettling as an adult though.
Not all terror is the same.
