Almost walked out

Yes this movie has impressive animation, a couple of good songs and the voice acting is spot on. Unfortunately all of the above are pros that are evident mostly to adults, but my six year old niece (as well as most of the children in the theater) was bored to tears, to the point that we almost walked out of it. It took me a lot to convince her to stay till the end.

The movie might be charming, but with only three action scenes it certainly isn't entertaining. The story has a very simple plot and it feels over stretched even for a 100+ min length.

Don't get me wrong, I believe that without kids (or maybe with more "art sensitive" kids) the movie experience would've been different, but if you're a parent and expect to have your kids' eyes glued to the screen, you might be disappointed.

All the kids in the cinema I went to seemed to like it! There was a little girl sat behind me who was so relived when Moana got the heart back "She got it!!" she shouted
Maybe it's just not your kids thins

Sounds like you need to show your kids more films that are not centered mainly on slapstick. Any of the classic Disney films, or solid DreamWorks films like both How to Train Your Dragons, have good action, funny moments and great animation, character/relationship building and messages. Same goes for Pixar. If you're feeling ballsy, you could introduce your kid to Don Bluth films like The Land Before Time and All Dogs go to Heaven, or Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Don't get me wrong, I like Minions and Secret Life of Pets (especially the latter!)Good family films have a mixture of material for both kids and adults. There's bound to be a great family film that both you and ypur kid will love equally. My go to would be The Lion King and HTTYD 1 and 2, but I may be biased :P.

My 4 year old nephew couldn't make it past the scene where her dad yelled at her for wanting to leave the island. We had to leave haha. He's a sensitive little dude.

I thought this was one of the worst movies I have ever seen in a movie theater. I gave it 2 stars. I hated it. The story went nowhere and it was boring and predicitable.

i wonder how many kids were bored. my kid has walked out of only a few movies, so she's not a good measure. she walked out of the big short which i thought was well-paced. she is never excited about the marvel movies like me. she sat through race and now is a jesse owens fan. she usually likes *beep* movies (fantastic beast, that brain movie, chipmunks, etc.) but this movie the whole family dug. i liked the movie and hate most children's movies, so maybe it appeals to older kids. plus i'm an indigenous person so i may be biased (as is my kid, obviously). my kid's six, so i don't know what she's supposed to like. she's a big fan of horror films too. but a lot of those are super cheesy to me

Huh, maybe your kid was overly tired or under the weather. I took a 6 and a 9 year old and they both loved it. The 6 year old says it's in her top 3 movies she's ever seen.

Why do people so frequently get told to read the book on a movie database?
