First: she's a phenomenal actress and she owns action roles hard.
Second: we live in a world where Scorsese got De Niro, Pesci, Pacino, et al. to play about seven different ages throughout the course of The Irishman. No reason the (still youthful) Johansson can't work a prequel.
Third: if you think Johansson isn't still a bombshell, your standards are absurdly high.
First: she can't act, she plays herself in every role
Second: YOU live in a world of CGI De niro, Pesci and Pacino, i Don't, i hated that rubbish irishman, scorsese has been putting out pure shit for a while.
Third: Johanson is not as hot as you might think 80% of hollywood actresses are hotter
I disagree with you most on her performative capabilities. Match Point, Lost in Translation, Her, Under the Skin - she's got a BUNCH that I love for their nuance and truth.

There are a lot of people who couldn't get over the CG de-aging in the Irishman - fair enough. But Scorsese's output is still strong. Silence was brilliant. Even calling something like Hugo "pure shit" is an overstatement surely?
As to the third point, to each his or her own. I happen to think Scarlett's extremely good looking.
I'll add this into the mix: I think that she's certainly talented enough to play the role she's been playing for the past decade or so. Why swap her now when they *finally* decide to give Black Widow her own film?

I'm still not sure what you mean. Her character in Match Point is not played the same way she approaches Black Widow or Charlotte, and she's vastly different in Under the Skin. Each one has, for instance, a different level of confidence. Black Widow and Under the Skin are both more physically-oriented roles. Charlotte is played repressed, but curious and "waking up" over the course of the movie. Her physicality is different, her mannerisms, how she carries herself.
What elements are the same?
Casino's underrated, and you don't like Gangs of New York? That's one of my top Scorsese films, close to Silence, which I think is one of the most underrated films of all time and was SNUBBED at the Academy Awards for not even having a nomination. It's a superlative film.
If you're sick of her, fine, I just don't see the need to chuck her for a character she built and established within this universe. I don't see her as past her prime at all.

But I still think Scarlett still has remarkably good looks, and I think it strange that people on these boards come on and tear her down as though she were homely or had become a grotesque simply because she doesn't look as she did twelve years ago.
I don't say that this is the case, but it always has the appearance of people who have calibrated their standards for beauty and sexuality based on Hollywood (or perhaps pornography) instead of recognising the "real" world. They wind up obsessed with a narrow band of women, a very specific body type, the absolute exemplars of that type, and (most tellingly) seem obsessed with youth and refuse to recognise beauty on the other side of twenty-five.
