(spoilers) Appropriate for kids??

I took my niece and nephew to it today (ages 9 & 6).

There are a few things I didn't love and NO it wasn't the the bunnies singing about their butts.

1. Ash living with her boyfriend.

Ash the porcupine was over and over again referred to as a "moody teenager" and maybe she was 19, but it was heavily alluded that her boyfriend and her lived together or at least they both had a key to the same apt and there were no parents/supervisors? It bothered me. I'm easy going but can we not have 19 year olds in kids movies living with their boyfriends?

2. Michael the Mouse being a bully.

His rude and disrespectful comments bothered me, especially the couple of comments about the pig's and elephant's weight/size. He made one comment that watching the pigs dance was like watching bowls of jello. I get it, it's Seth McFarland and I'm a fan of Family Guy but I don't think it's appropriate for children.

3. Message about money and girls/popularity.

This might just be me and the fact that my nephew can struggle with insecurity but the scene when Michael isn't let into the club and then the next day he shows up with an expensive car, gets let in AND gets the attention of a pretty girl. I just didn't like this message. PLUS he never learns his lesson, he gets to keep the car, he still gets to sing in the show AND he ends up with the girl.

I'm over here apologizing to my sister for taking her kids to this. Am I alone here?

Wow. I brought up these points about this movie to see if I was the only one who was bothered by them.
If I am then that's cool too.

I'm fully aware that it's not the end of the world for my niece and nephew.

Thanks.

Won't somebody think of the children! God people will be offended by anything these days

They're definitely going to be scarred for life. I only wish to be a fly on the wall when they are talking to their therapist about this movie in 8 years. "But but how could the 19yo ANIMAL live with her boyfriend ?" "That mouse was a bully" and "OMG the movie said if i was rich at a club i would get more attention" FOR SHAAAAME THE WORLD HAS CORRUPTED ME.

I somewhat agree with OP, after watching the trailer for "Sing". It's a bit creepy when animals shake their asses in a kid movie; remember the "sexy" female Chipmunks? I know it's meant to acknowledge pop culture, but a lot of pop culture is not appropriate for children. Katy Perry's tits and Miley Cyrus twerking are examples of why the Earth hates US culture. I'm not a puritan, but that was cringe worthy. Unfortunately filmmakers inject that "pop" into kid movies. SMH

The kids in my audience seemed to enjoy it. When I was waiting for my movie to start another screening let out and there was a troop of elementary school girls who walked past me singing "Oh My Gosh, Look at Her Butt!" several times in unison before bursting into giggles...I think they'll be fine.

Haha, we saw this yesterday and my daughter, who is 6, did the same thing. My kids loved this.

I drive a school bus and my 4k students sing this on repeat! LOL

I'm guessing OP also doesn't like Bambi for the horrid scenes witnessing mommy dear getting shot and killed.

It's a movie!!!! Maybe the real question is, why would any child be that impressionable that such parts in movies are a risk for imitation.

aprilfourthmonth, if we have to go, the list would grow longer. I took my 3-y-old son to see it yesterday. Sure, he didn't understood most of the movie, but enjoyed the funny moments. However even before seeing the movie, when I was playing him the trailer, with my wife we decided to sing "Oh my Gosh, look at her BAH!" in order to avoid him repeating "butt". This is what really bothered us.

But bottom line is - the movie is very funny and we all enjoyed seeing it.

Otherwise - there are issues, yes. They discuss obesity, teenage issues, bullying, organized crime, simple issues like the giraffe being discriminated just because he is too tall and can't be easily communicated and guess some more. But who really cares? It's funny. If you don't like the things, guess you can write Illumination an email.

This is reality though. There are going to be bullies and teenagers living together.
