(spoilers) Appropriate for kids??

I took my niece and nephew to it today (ages 9 & 6).

There are a few things I didn't love and NO it wasn't the the bunnies singing about their butts.

1. Ash living with her boyfriend.

Ash the porcupine was over and over again referred to as a "moody teenager" and maybe she was 19, but it was heavily alluded that her boyfriend and her lived together or at least they both had a key to the same apt and there were no parents/supervisors? It bothered me. I'm easy going but can we not have 19 year olds in kids movies living with their boyfriends?

2. Michael the Mouse being a bully.

His rude and disrespectful comments bothered me, especially the couple of comments about the pig's and elephant's weight/size. He made one comment that watching the pigs dance was like watching bowls of jello. I get it, it's Seth McFarland and I'm a fan of Family Guy but I don't think it's appropriate for children.

3. Message about money and girls/popularity.

This might just be me and the fact that my nephew can struggle with insecurity but the scene when Michael isn't let into the club and then the next day he shows up with an expensive car, gets let in AND gets the attention of a pretty girl. I just didn't like this message. PLUS he never learns his lesson, he gets to keep the car, he still gets to sing in the show AND he ends up with the girl.

I'm over here apologizing to my sister for taking her kids to this. Am I alone here?

reply

Pretty much. Don't think any kid is going to view this film with that much neurosis.

"So where did you go wrong in life, Jenny?"
"Well, when I was a kid I saw a movie where a teenage porcupine lived with her boyfriend."

reply

Lol! This response is EVERYTHING!!!

reply

haha yeah, uckfin' adults ruin everything with their hang ups.

the "sister" sounds like a piece of work. there's issues there, for sure.

This is ridiculous.

That's why it's rated PG. It stands for Parental Guidance.

It's up to you to navigate your kids through what you think is inappropriate. Want something you can just sit your kids in front of that isn't objectionable? Put on Winnie the Pooh.

where i live this film got itself a G rating.

still, i think the OP's post and the OP's sister have some bad isht going on in their heads.

i'd be EXTREMELY surprised if their wasn't some god bothering involved here with these two.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but if someone is offended by this movie...thicker skin needs to be developed. When I was a kid, I wasn't shielded much from tthe real world and how cruel others can be. I think kids needs that exposure (in moderation) and it's up to the parents to teach them right from wrong.
I took my sister's children to see this also and was more concerned that I was going to pass out from boredom.

reply

It's rated PG. not G. so it's up to the parents to let their child see it.
I personally saw nothing wrong with jr

Didn't really mind Ash living with her boyfriend. Hated Mike tho.

Do your job as a babysitter or have your sister do her job as a parent and talk about how like saying, how Michael is acting like a bully or something, try to find things to discuss about your kids and teach them something!
