Why Not Just Shoot Them When They Arrived?

Job done.

Ruth walks in, bang, you blow his head off.

reply

Movie logic.

reply

because lazy writing

reply

wouldnt be a hit movie that way

reply

Isn't a hit movie either.

reply

Many movies would last about 15 minutes if people behaved a they would in real life, especially the big hits.

reply

bad movies

Lord of the Rings. Page One.

Gandalf took the ring, jumped on a bird a threw it into the pit of fire.

The End.

Lord of the Rings movie would have been a short.

reply

ok , theres that one , yeah :)

reply

Gandalf took the Ring, decided to keep it and unleashed a self-righteous fascist empire that conquered Middle Earth...?

I'm not saying I wouldn't read it, but...

reply

Exactly

reply

In that case, I'm saying that there are in-story reasons why you couldn't "just" fly to Mordor and drop the Ring into Mt. Doom. Gandalf does behave rationally by not claiming the Ring, even to be the Ringbearer and attempt to end Sauron and his darkness.

I'm not saying there isn't any time in Lord of the Rings where somebody behaves irrationally, but that's not one of them.

reply

Frodo carries it and they fly there, Frodo drops it in. Looks like they chose the long game and the highest odds in the book, just to stretch it out to many books. No need for Tree monsters and Frodo having a nervous breakdown in the mountains when he could have been back at the Shire for some afternoon tiffin in a couple of easy minutes.

Therefore, by peoples logic here on how good stories should be told in shortest time possible to the end or its dumb. A speed run, super easy, barely and inconvenience.

There are shorter ways to end the story if Gandalph the Dumb just put his mind to it. All of that text is a waste because it could have been ended earlier, so Lord of the Rings is bad.

I love Pitch Meetings and How It Should Have Ended. They're both very funny.

Not the best story editors, though.

Pitch meetings are TIGHT!

Fanboy Flicks is pretty good to. And he doesnt have to sell his soul to Screen Rant.

I'm not sure the eagles could have just flown into Mordor at that point in the story with an alert Sauron and legions of evil things not engaged in a massive battle, some of which I'm sure could fly. At the end, after Sauron and his armies were mostly destroyed, the eagles had no problem.

Bruce Wayne used his parents' considerable fortune to hire the best therapists and chose to use his formidable wealth and influence to tirelessly work to make the world a better place from the top-down.

(Though, this actually just makes it a heavy, high-stakes drama like something Aaron Sorkin might write...)

reply

Exactly

reply

At least it works in "comic book land". Escapism has its purposes.

reply

"I will fight every criminal in the world 1 by 1 until crime is defeated!"

Yeh Batman, good idea. But its like painting the Golden Gate bridge. By the time you get to one end, its time to start painting the first end.

reply

"What if I do it while dressed as a bat? And I'll have bat-shaped knives. And a bat-car. What about that?"

reply

Bats "So I have to wait around until the suit and car are designed and built"

Alf "yuh"

Bats "Im smart and rich, but I cant design and build a car, plane, boat, weapons and suit keeping with the "bat" motif"

Alf "Hold my beer, I know a few guys"

Bats "this has to be a secret though"

Alf "I said hold my beer, and don't you dare take a sip"

reply

"I'm holding! I'm holding! ...[muttering to himself] Alfred's the butler...I'm not the butler...who am I? I'm Bruce Wayne. Wayne, dammit....no... I'm... THE BAT-MAN!"

reply

1. You might hit Daisy
2. You don't know how many guys he's got outside.
3. Of the guys inside, you don't know how fast they are. Marquis is an x-factor they weren't counting on, and he might put up a better fight than you expect and you might lose a couple people. They're a small group; they aren't thinking "oh, we only lost two men," they're thinking, "I lost two of my friends".
4. They're flapping in the wind without a clear leader in the room. Should we shoot? Should we draw on these guys? And normally they'd look to the boss, but she's tied up.

I think the biggest thing is that if they just start shooting, they're liable to lose one or two soldiers or, worse, Daisy herself, defeating the whole purpose of the exercise.

EDIT: I changed "Ruth" for "Daisy". I goofed up and mixed up the character names.

reply

Good answer, Ace.

reply

Thanks!

In the extended cut "Joe Cage" is seen vocally proposing this very idea of simply shooting Ruth as soon as he has a clear shot & in fact attempts this until Daisy subtlety tips them off about the extra unaccounted for armed passangers outside that they would have to deal with. It's only then that Cage accepts having to "do it the hard way" & wait things out.

reply

I still don't see how that changes much. All three men enter, they turn their backs... Bang!

reply

Timing all three of them (four counting O.B.) conveniently having their backs turned long enough to shoot them simultaneously without it turning into a shootout with the high possibility of Daisy (chained to Ruth) being shot in the crossfire? That's not at all realistic. Especially considering that John Ruth and Major Warren in particular were already suspicious and on alert from the start. Even the stealthy use of poison which succeeded in fatally poisoning Ruth largely backfired, leading to all of the bandits being exposed and killed.

reply

Exactly, so they're plan was already risky. Immediately shooting them is no more or less complicated than the actual plan. It's a damn sight more efficient really.

Each man takes responsibility for one person. They're primed and ready to go. Ruth is the key so whoever has the responsibility of killing him is the one the others must keep their eye on. Once he makes his move, everyone else does. The brother is the back-up.

reply

Either plan is bad but an uncoordinated shootout is still definitely worse. They can't exactly coordinate at that point who shoots who either. Not to mention Ruth also takes away their guns fairly quickly, leaving only the hidden guns they had stored around Minnie's haberdashery, complicating that idea even further.

reply

how do they coordinate "each man taking on one" when they have no way to talk about this plan and were expecting to just take out a single person. if they knew all the variables and factors and planned before hang. I agree your assessment is the correct one. but they didnt and they couldn't

reply

Otherwise, there wouldn't be much of a movie.

reply

Except Marcus Warren, Chris Mannix, and OB were all in the barn and would have run back and shot them. Plus they might risk shooting Daisy if they shoot John.
