But it wasn't 8 people! It wasn't even his 8th film!

So, who were the 8 supposed to be? There was:

-Marquis
-John
-Daisy
-Mannix
-Bob
-Oswaldo
-Gage
-General
-O.B.
-Jody

I wouldn't count Minnie, Sweet Dave, Judy, etc. in this count, because they were innocent bystanders. Some could argue that O.B. is also innocent, but Jody is definitely "hateful", so that would be at least 9, not 8.

It's also not QT's 8th film. When Kill Bill was split into 2 films, that was that. You can't just say, "oh, but my vision was for it to be one film all along". It was theatrically released as two films. If he ever releases Kill Bill, Volume 3, then this will solidify it. Not counting his first, incomplete film or his shared directorial stints, The Hateful 8 is his ninth film.

WTF? Lies!

reply

Not sure if serious but the 8 were the 4 in the carriage and the 4 gang members waiting for them.

The rest are just ancillary characters

reply

But why would the General not be included? He was hateful and he was advertised on all the promotional material.

reply

The general was included, shown in the promotionals as The Confederate. The head of the gang, Tatum's character, did't count cause he just wanted to free his sister and had a smaller role.

reply

The eight were the ones who were prominently featured in the advertising (Major Warren, John Ruth, Daisy, Chris, Bob, Oswaldo, Joe Gage and General Smithers). O.B. was an outsider involved solely because he was the stagecoach driver and Jody was meant to be a surprise reveal (despite the fact that they did a bad job of keeping his appearance a surprise, unlike Matt Damon in "Interstellar").

And no, once again, "Kill Bill" is not two films just because you paid two tickets to see it. It is, like "Nymph()maniac", two halves of a single film that was started as one movie and split instead of condensing the material and has, in the time since, been screened in limited theatrical showings as a single 4 hour film.

Why are people so obnoxious about this? This is like the tenth thread, and equally annoying get a grip.

Kill bill 2 is a continuation of the first. That's why it's volume 2, not a sequel or anything. Notice it picks up directly from the first entirely. It was just too long for one movie to be shown.

The Hateful Eight is pretty simple. REALLY simple. OB was a bystander, non hateful character, driving the carriage.

Jody was a surprise twist.

John, Daisy, Marquis, Mannix, Bob, Joe, Oswaldo, and the General are the Hateful 8.

It is his film; he considers 'Kill Bill' to be two volumes comprising one film.

reply

The whole 8 situation is clearly a gimmick. It's the only way he could make the title work and he can also tie the number into his catalogue -- at least on the technicality that Kill Bill was one movie. Whether you're willing to accept that is another matter.

So he has his title that he likes, plus 8 core characters he's working with, then he gets into the meat of the script and finds out he needs more. Fine, just pass them off as supporting players. It's a matter of convenience.

reply

It doesn't matter if you accept that tidbit or not, though, because Quentin sees it as two volumes, one movie; thus, it's one movie, whether you agree or disagree.

reply

Yeah? Well how come my cinema tried to charge me for another ticket when i went to see Vol 2? They certainly saw it as 2 separate movies.

Yes I know these people will most likely never see this reply but holy fuck does this whole "Well QT sees it as just 1 movie" argument massively suck balls. Kill Bill is 1 story told over 2 movies, fucking deal with it.

reply

QT shot and edited Kill Bill to be one 4.5 hour movie. He fought hard to keep it that way and it stayed that way until about four months before its release. He didn't make KB1 and KB2 separately so from his POV it's still just one movie. The fact that you're too stupid to grasp this simple concept doesn't matter.

reply

I understand the concept completely. I understand Tarantino's original vision for Kill Bill, and as "hard" as he fought for it to stay as one complete entity, he was unsuccessful. It doesn't change the fact that it was split up by the studios as two different films, was marketed that way, and still has a proposed third film. Whether or not this third film happens is questionable.

Now that we have that out of the way, let's talk about your manners, of which you have none. Obviously, my mostly tongue in cheek post stirred up all kinds of emotions for you. Is calling someone stupid the best way to get your point across? Does this make you feel better about yourself as a person? I'm sorry that your parents and society failed you. Good day sir.

reply

It doesn't matter what happened to his one movie after he finished shooting it. It was still one movie that later was chopped in half. An idiot like you would argue that a baker baked 24 slices of bread rather than one single loaf.

reply

It's one movie because it's one story.

When you watch Die Hard, you don't have to watch the 2nd part to know the ending of the story of the first one.

But you have to watch both vol. of Kill Bill to get the whole story.

If he would make Kill Bill 3 (which I doubt), it would be an other film, because it's a new story.

And the 8 is correct. O.B is not hateful and Jody is the twist.

reply

Salty IMD user...that takes me back.

reply

Poetic license. Hateful 8 sounds better than Hateful 9, 10 or any other number.

reply

Since Kill Bill is one long story I don't count it as two separate movies. Anyway who cares? Why cry over it?
