Loads of undeserved one star ratings - because it shows the ugly reality.

OK, so this was no Die Hard but it's a decent action flick which has its moments. The production value is high, especially in the first half - it's shot on a grand scale and has a decent touch of realism towards the beginning. After that it's a slightly over-the-top action flick, so criticism about that would be valid.

But all the one star reviews are completely unfair. The movie deals with terrorists belonging to a certain religion (I won't say which so as to not trigger anyone, just pick the first random religion that comes to YOUR mind when you think of terrorists... ) - and the hero is an alpha male who gives no *beep* about calling a guy called Kamran, Cameron. It's kinda funny actually, the lack of PC. I loved it... Very refreshing.
And that explains the scores of people going into a tizzy and giving it a one star rating. Watch it, but don't take any delicate souls along coz they may not appreciate it as much. Cheers!

if you think this movie depicts any kind of reality, then you don't know jack about reality.

Also: You're argument is pretty invalid, since the villain of the movie is not a religious extremist or depicted as an Islamist. He's basically just exacting revenge for the death of his family.

The villain could have had any ethnicity, but because all brown people are terrorists, they of course went with that. Just shows you how stereotypical and xenophobic this film is.

Which is not to say I didn't enjoy it. I loved it, in a guilty pleasure kind of way. The same way that I enjoy watching a Trump-speech. I don't actual take any of the content for real though. Nobody should.

Are you serious? What race do you think people who die from drone strikes happen to be? It would make ZERO sense to have a pasty Caucasian guy as the guy who lost his daughter in collateral damage in a drone strike. If anything, you'd have to be going out of your way to make this happen. Get real.

reply

As the film shown, the whole family was in the "freedom" business and such, was targeted. Would a drone strike like they depicted? Truly not. The car of one of the sons toured alone trough the desert. That would be the moment to strike.

Also, in Pakistan, Yemen and all that other $%!" countries, its now the government itself (with Intel from the West) that does the striking. China alone sells 1000s of drones per year. That the reason the "freedom fighters" are now rather attacking their own governments.

For the movie they created a cutout badman with a forced premise that is just not believable to begin with. The rest is conjecture. Finding so many people with severe storm trooper syndrome is obviously ridiculous. Getting clearly "foreign" looking people to pose as English senior level cops in high security environments is just...ha.

As an action movie this thing work. As believable action movie, this thing fails on all levels, not only because of bad CGI and fuzzy US Flag wrapping, but because it would take serious amount of money to pull it off. We are talking in the 10s of millions, not just a box of it.

The one star rating are nonsense. This is clearly a 3-4 four, just because of the production values. Trying too much with no budget doesn't give you more than that.

Thankyou for posting such a fair, honest and unbiased review. My wife and I watched the blu-ray and the extras with great pleasure, accepting the film for no more than it was - an action-packed political-terrorist film set in London. No religion was mentioned (although, as you rightly say it would not require a genius to identify the bad guys!). More of the GB back story concerning the PM's death would have been nice and more work should have been done to make Charing Cross Underground station less geographically and architectirally unrealistic (most films fall into this kind of trap sooner or later).

Good film - great post. i give it and you 7 and 10 out of 10, respectively.

reply

I gave this movie 4/10. I'm quite anti-PC. And the fact the bad guys were of that certain religion (possibly) was kinda cool and true to life.

Actually it was the only thing that seemed realistic. The rest was over the top and dumb. They also never went into great detail how that guy in Yemen got half the police force in London to turn into terrorists. Also once the bad guy blows up the rest of the movie is pretty much superfluous.

And I've seen better cgi on late night made for TV SyFy movies

I give it a 7.9. I wanted action and it gave it to me. Don't believe this could ever happen but I didn't want a documentary. Not sure if Olympus Has Fallen might have been a little better but like them both. Read some of the 1 star reviews and disappointed in the people who wasted their time typing them. This is another good triumphs over evil and I will watch it again.

reply

I give it 3 stars because the action scenes were well done.

However the story was illogical, the editing for the non-action scenes was rubbish.

The dialogue and plot were very predictable in places, the plot twists were unsurprising and handled mundanely.

My wife fell asleep during the rescue scenes at the end it was so exciting.

Not sure who told the SAS men the correct way to handle a firefight is to walk directly towards the person shooting at you.

"Loads of undeserved one star ratings - because it shows the ugly reality.". No, its because of low quality propaganda: it subliminally induces the idea that the president of the USA has the real power. He's just a puppet when it comes to REAL issues, and the world knows it. For CGI, there are other movies to watch. When you make a political propaganda movie, all CGI in the world won't deceive sharp minds.
Enjoy the movie.

you would have to be one hell of a moron to be influenced by this shoot em up.

I would say my memory is not what it used to be. But I don't remember what my memory used to be.

Butler was good. The car, motor bike chase, 'his' driving was fun. His stick into their faces was fun. The one-liners. )
