I don't like the flashbacks to Dexter's mother, takes too much time away from the 1993 timeline!

There is already a lot going on in 1993, with the focus on Deb and her BF (who I assume is secretly a serial killer, though I've only seen up to ep5), Dexter at work with colleagues, Harry's legal issues, Deb and Dexter at home, Harry and Dexter at home...

So I don't like them flashing back to Dexter's mother (with younger Harry and small Dexter).
Not enough time in the episode to give scenes to another timeline... plus we know what happens to her anyway.

By the way, I've only seen the first 5 episodes, because I'm trying to make it last until April or May, so won't have a big gap between Original Sin and Resurrection (which starts in June).

But it’s a huge part of the story. It’s almost everything as to why and how Dexter is who he is. And who Harry was evidently. I think it’s great. And it’s really scary actually. They show more stuff. It should be there. For me, not fond of high school stuff but no complaints.

There's hardly any high school scenes in the first 5 episodes. I don't even remember any scene of Deb in class. Seems like all she does is play volleyball!
Anyway, I hope once Dexter's mother is killed they won't keep showing scenes of small Dexter moving into Harry's house etc. because that will go on forever and keep interrupting the 1993 timeline...

No classroom scenes. High school meaning scenes with students, girlfriends. Volleyball is at the high school. I guess you never saw the first Dexter because the whole first and second seasons go back in time. As you may recall, Harry commits suicide. Any flashbacks, I like. I think maybe you might be the only one who has a problem with early Dexter but maybe there are others.

For me, it is Deb’s character who is absolutely annoying. I don’t think it’s the actress’s fault but a writer’s conception of her during this time period. In the original, she was foul-mouthed blasphemous but had style and a magnanimous personality and she loved and idolized Dexter. This one, she doesn’t. Every time I see her, I cringe. And that’s the downside for me. It’s odd that you have the two things in your name that bother me the most: deb and the volleyball thing with students. Not necessarily volleyball - I love that sport but just her scenes at the high school. Strange. Weird actually.

As I said, there's hardly any high school scenes in the first 5 episodes, and the high school scenes they do show are with her volleyball teammates...

I saw every episode of Dexter (2006-2013) about 4 or 5 times each, and those flashbacks were great, but flashbacks in this prequel series aren't necessary, because we already know what happened to Dexter's mother.

If flashbacks don't deliver enough new information, all they do is break-up the momentum of an episode...
The other problem with these flashbacks is that they're taking up more time per episode than the flashbacks in the 2006 series.

Deb is the most entertaining and fun character in this prequel in my opinion.
While its true she isn't mirroring the adult version, she isn't supposed to, because this is TEENAGE DEB and teenagers are known for angst and lack of self-control...

And the actress playing teenage Deb is doing a better job than the actor playing Dexter so far (but the actor playing Dexter has a tougher role, because Michael C. Hall is too much to compete with).

Enjoy the show. I think it is good. So good that it will definitely get a S2. Hope you survive watching flashbacks. Looking forward to Resurrection.

I'm editing out all the flashbacks so when I watch this series again in future it will run smoother.
While Original Sin is great fun, I think Resurrection is going to be the most suspenseful and thrilling series EVER.
I mean the story is set-up so perfectly for Resurrection, and IMDb has it listed as a TV Series, not a "TV Mini Series" so Dexter is going to escape, and it will be fascinating to watch how!
