Stupid endings

What is wrong with most of the horror movies? Is it really necessary to not have an clear ending?
We spent 90+ minutes watching a movie and it ends up like this.
What is the point of making a movie if there is no ending. We know, something is happening through out the movie, and we wait to see what is it.and what we get finally?? Nothing.

Well, there was an ending. It was stupid. I didn't like it.

reply

yup. terrible.

Ending: she realizes something went inside her that night. As she becomes less herself, she knows what must be done. So instead of killing her husband, she "hides" him (essentially drowning him, in her own ignorant-to-human-needs state of mind) and goes back into the forest to be taken away by the aliens. She clearly stated that she knows her time is limited, that she'll have to leave.

Where's the ambiguity? I can understand you not liking the film, but where's the unclear ending you speak of?

We've met before, haven't we?

Didn't think of it that way, i thought the aliens just didn't want him drawing attention to him so got her to kill him.

Either way i liked the film, although still confused at why when she changed she suddenly disliked animals/insects being hurt

reply

no I agree this movie gave us ZERO explanation. Anyone can put together an intriguing enough question, we're all sitting there waiting for the answer. Plus there was more to the way she "hid" her husband considering that Annie did the exact same thing to hers. I liked the premise, I'm still waiting for a resolution.

I figured the "have to hide you from them" idea was so that they don't make him a host for one of them as well (we don't know how long her body would have lasted if the parasite hadn't been pulled out).

In that sense, "hiding" him under the water (where, yeah, he's dead, but not a host to a parasitic infection and going on to expand the infection amongst his own friends/family) is better than letting them have him, kill/lobotomize him for all intents and purposes, and then use him to extend their infection to yet others.

It is a vague ending, but that seems to make sense.

reply

yeaaah, because just telling him to run and then kill HERSELF would have been totally illogical, right? ;)

reply

they wouldn't have let her kill herself. and they would have killed him if he tried to get away.

reply

....that does not make any sense at all.

Clearly, the aliens impregnate people. Males cannot be impregnated, so he wasn't even a candidate for that. There's also nothing to support the idea that humans can spread the parasite from one to another. From what is shown in the movie, the aliens have to do the insemination themselves.

She hid him under the water to protect him from the aliens because she knew that they wanted to kill him. They wanted to kill him because he realized what was going on and saw the parasite and they didn't want to risk him running away and telling people. She wasn't in her right state of mind so I don't think she really conceptualized that he would be dead if she put him in the lake, she just wanted to put him someplace where they wouldn't see him.

It's that simple.

Hi there!

I realize, that you posted this 2 years ago, but I watched the movie yesterday and want to partake in the discussion. :)

I think the entity, that took hold of her is a hive-mind. That's why she and the other woman annie, start to memorize the basic facts about their "personas/host-bodies". It's one mind who has to remember these things.

It feels somehow related to other hive-creatures, like ants and such.

That's my theory on why she dislikes insects being hurt.

I hope this is still of some value to you. :)

Happy new year!

I agree with you, I liked it so much :)

the movie I saw was 87 minutes of creepy, scary stuff!
the end left questions. but it was scary as hell.
subtle references to losing her "self. her and the character of Annie referring to themselves as "we".
the last line, "i used to be alone, now I'm not." hints at her/ them becoming part of some larger collective body/ consciousness.
I don't know if it was aliens or some natural mutation turning these women into hybrid cocoons.
but that $#!T gave me chills.

I was just rating this movie after watching, and I was like I got to give it a 5 or 6, because the ending was pathetic, and the last like 30 minutes didn't hold up to the pretty neat opening.

I mean I just watching "come back to me", and when they get into that "please tell me what the *beep* is going on" moments, they actually released info to you to keep you tied down. In honeymoon there was no climax. The very last scene, should have been done with 20 minutes left.

I am not so mad about what happens in end, but how slow, and non-dramatic it happened. I mean we spent most movie of "what is happening" from the guy. We didn't need even more.

Great, thought-provoking ending to a mediocre movie.

Soooo... considering the thread title I think we can take spoilers for granted here right?

The movie has an ending. A really clear one. It's the typical Invasion of the Body Snatchers ending.

They win. The end.

I felt this was a much better alien invasion movie than the dull-as-ditchwater "Under The Skin".

On top of the typical ending to this kind of film, it actually had a really neat twist. All through the film we think she's acting weird because she's been replaced by an alien. We think that she's writing down those details about herself because she's an alien now and needs reminders to help her remember them.

The twist is that the alien isn't the one who's acting weird. The alien parasites are still trying to take over the host and they are slowly making her lose her mind. She's writing down those details because she's trying not to lose who she is. She's convinced that her husband is in danger, so she's desperately trying to keep him from knowing what's happened to her.

There's foreshadowing to the "hiding him under the water" when they are fishing and she's putting the bait into the water. She says how long the bait can survive under water. Later on when she's completely mixed up by the alien parasites, she believes that she's keeping him safe by hiding him underwater.

Did the aliens actually want him to impregnate her? Or did the aliens just want him dead? It's never actually stated. But what we DO know is that the exact same sequence of events took place with the other couple at the restaurant.

I guess this was pretty subtle, but plenty happens here and the atmosphere had me on the edge of my seat. Seems like this is a bit of a marmite movie.
