Ask the CIRCLE Filmmakers

Hey guys,

We're the filmmaking team behind CIRCLE and figured we'd start a thread to chat with people who had seen the movie and wanted to share theories or ask questions. Assume this will have spoilers, so if you haven't seen the film yet, read at your own risk!

Thanks,

Team Circle

Hi.

I just wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It was very suspenseful and interesting, and I had no idea who would be the last one standing (though I was hoping it would be the child or the pregnant woman, and if not those two, then the guy who never killed anyone).

I didn't, however, like the epilogue. Why did you decide to incorporate aliens? I thought it would've worked better if it ended with either the screen going blank after the guy kills the pregnant lady and asks what's happening next, or after the mechanism indicates there's a tie between him and unborn baby. It would've much more powerful, an open ending for which the viewer can decide what happens. The concept of aliens made it a cop-out, and didn't quite tie in with the rest of the movie's idea of survival.

Anyway, no actual questions, just wanted to tell you that I loved it.

Hello Circle People,

Pretty cool that the creator of a movie come directly talk to their audience.

I really liked you movie, it kept me interested the whole time, it's very interesting that the rule of the game does not allow either the carachters or the viewer to really pause and think about what's going on. It gets messy but in a good way.

Kuddo's to the people in charge of editing the movie, the concepet was very good but a poor editing could have ruined the all thing. The pace is very well done.

I feared a little bit at the end, it was pretty cool to watch and understand how the survivor manipulated almost evryone, until his final "victory". But this must have been a tough choice to know how to end it. And i think the movie is metaphoric enough to actually give us a real ending ( see the space ship, see other victors) and not let it too open to interprétation.

The only thing i did not like that much is some of the people rants about : Elder people place in society, race, homosexuality, carrier choice, immigration etc... Sometimes it felt like " what issue did we not get". Not that those issue should have not been there, but sometimes it came out of the blue. That being said, i felt maybe it was a satire of the same stupid rand we see everyday on tv, internet on social media. So of course i understand why it was there, the whole people jugding people thing. And in the end, few of them were not *beep* since they all had predjudices against something, or were psycopath.

Anyway, Good Movie, let us now about you next project when you'll get to it, you definitly have our interst now.

Absolutely brilliant and engaging film, very reminiscent of the best episodes of the Twilight Zone. But sorry, that ending.... what on earth!? I mean... explanation, please.

Cheers guys and thanks for an interesting film,

Please let me audition or video audition for your next film.

If you have a place for this already, where is the preferred place?

Hi Team Circle,

Your movie kept me up late, mainly because I came straight to the forums after it was over to read the discussion. The fact that viewers have taken the time to comment and discuss the movie and their theories makes this a compelling "mind game" film.
As a Cinema Studies professor, though, I must say that I did not want answers from you in terms of the plot. Answers from the filmmakers can sometimes shut down further viewer inquiry, don't you think? The behind the scenes trivia was fun to read, but I liked that the premise and ending of the film were subjective and open ended. You did warn about spoilers, but still...do you think the film gains more value by revealing information that is not necessarily "in" the film?

I'm asking you these questions from an academic perspective, so I hope you don't mind my criticism :)

As a big fan of Cube and sci-fi/ mind-game cinema, your film made me *think*, and I appreciate that.

This was a fantastic film. It's not very often that i see a film that keeps me guessing throughout. I've recommended it to several people. It's very impressive that the film managed to stay entertaining considering it was completely dialogue based. Just wanted to comment on a job very well done, it is nice to see some originality in considering all the stuff that's been coming out. Do y'all have any other awesome ideas for movies in the works currently?

What do you think of the movie "The Human Race"?

I ask because I just happened to find both of these great movies in the last couple of weeks and despite the many differences between the two of them there are so many parallels.

You guys did an excellent job telling a story with what was clearly a very limited budget.

With 23 pages of replies you may have addressed this issue, but I didn't see it.

Your in a room and your compatriots are being picked off in two minute intervals. It doesn't seem that rational discussion while standing on a lighted circle would be the standard human reaction. This whole premise was very hard to digest.

I think they actually addressed that some point in the movie in the dialogue. Wasn't there something about the numbness once the reality of the situation sunk in? I think it didn't take long for these people to realize that they were all dead and most of the dialogue and conversations were then taking place in a deep state of mental shock and a disassociation from reality.

They figured out pretty quick that if you panicked and moved to much you were a goner.

I think maybe they missed an opportunity here early on in the movie after they figured out how the voting took place though. There could have been one person that stayed still but wouldn't STFU long enough for anybody to think and then a bunch of them just vote to kill them off early on.
