I actually still respect Lance

No matter what anyone says lance still won those tours against other drug cheats. I still respect him and find him quite likeable , I can't stand all the whiners like Bessie andriu and David Walsh.

Lance deserves a second chance after all he raised $500 million for cancer , who gives a sh*t about cycling anyway.

reply

You should do some reading about him. Trust me, the further you go down the rabbit hole, the worse it gets. Reed Albergotti and Vanessa O'Connell's book Wheelmen has some of the more gory details about him not covered elsewhere. (Published here in the UK, so I tend to believe it all because of our stringent libel laws.)
Unless you already have, then each to his or her own.
SURRENDER DOROTHY

reply

Thanks I'll check out the book. He just always seemed like a decent guy to me and raised huge amounts for cancer.

reply

Interesting, I'll check this book too. He was a great athlete, he made millions to help cancer (I had one of his yellow bracelets) but personally I'm not a fan either. And based on this trailer, I think that we'll see his worst side. He and Michele Ferrari look like villains and Walsh the hero in this movie.

reply

You can recognize great physical achievement without respecting character. As an athlete, he was amazing. As a person, he was a piece of sh*t.

reply

Why exactly was he a piece of *beep* He raised $500 million for cancer and helped save countless lives, that's a hell of a lot more important than riding a bike competitively.

And their are countless sources of the lives he tried to ruin along the way in order to hide the truth

reply

What part of "none of the money goes to research and he hasn't saved any lives" are you people not understanding?

reply

Just shut up you conspiracy nut.

reply

He wouldn't have been able to raise all that if he wasn't a big shot cyclist. So it's okay if I rob from a bank if I donate the money to charity?

reply

no lance is a dirtbag who ruin other people lies just to keep his secret

it's never Joan Van Ark- Marge Simpsons

reply

I definetly respect lance armstrong. All the movies i have seen has shown me a man determinated to do anything to Win. From when he was young and innocent and won the wc to when he tried to Win the tour for his comeback. It is clear to see that there is a few People Who cant stand his succes. The worst is betsie. She cant stand him being better than her husband. And her husband is just wipped and does anything she makes him. She is so angre that her husbands cycling had to stop so soon.

reply

are you high?

- "is this the secret headquarters of the gestapo?"
- "It was"

reply

Yes, I believe you're that stupid to respect someone who may have ruined lives. You're probably also dumb enough to be a Trump supporter.

reply

It's more complex than that. Your correct, Lance took a lot of people down to protect his "brand." Yet no one can deny he did a lot in raising money for cancer research and helped many sick children. Humans are complex beings.

Hero? Villain? I suspect just a flawed human.

reply

He was able to achieve many good things for other people outside of his cycling career, like raise money for cancer research and build a community that took inspiration from his own cancer journey.

So much of what he did was predicated on a lie. He needs to live with that.

But I can't respect someone whose personal ambition to win was at the expense of others whose character he tore down. He ruined people's reputation. He accepted the honor of being hailed a hero.

The fact that Armstrong was a giant hypocrite will be his lasting legacy.

like raise money for cancer research

His charity only spends on 'awareness', no money goes to actual research. With a research charity, you can clearly see how much money goes to research and how much to overhead. However, with a vague goal like 'awareness,' the money can be used for anything.

For instance, Livestrong paid for a 6 million dollar party in Ireland, Lance's personal lawyers were paid by Livestrong, they paid for his travel expenses, etc. That was not enough, so he also created a commercial company: Livestrong.com. People would think that they were dealing with the charity, but money that went to that company was not used for charity.

reply

Well that's even more damning!

The rot obviously runs deep. He couldn't have deceived the world for so long without telling other, seemingly lesser, lies along the way.

reply

There's a particular notorious celebrity in the UK, I won't mention his name but he is no longer alive, who raised millions for charity, ran marathons in his 60s - it was subsequently discovered after he died that he ruined many people's lives. Not one person has respect for him because his bad behaviour negated any goodwill he achieved for his charitable work.

Am not comparing the two's behaviour because they were very different but what you cannot say is that just because somebody raises monies for charity should in any way whatsoever absolve them of the consequences of terrible actions on others. And don't forget the bullying of people that took place was inexcusable.

All the doping aside, I've read and heard some pretty despicable things about the way he discarded his family after finding fame. I live and grew up in Austin, and let's just say his treatment and neglect of his family was not a secret. In a lot of ways this is a small town... Kids that went to school with his kids (and their parents) had some pretty devastating things to say-- some of which I heard firsthand.
I realize that cheating is rampant in sports, but abandoning your wife and children for a Hollywood life is unforgivable. There is no reason to respect someone like that... Especially someone who was supposed to be a role model.

reply

"Raised $500m for charity" - at the same time he was busted, in the UK, people would had said "so did Jimmy Savile"

reply

I hardly equate using performance enhancing drugs with pedophilia and raping children. Especially, when *ALL* racers were doing the same. That is not cheating, it is "leveling the playing field."

LIVE STRONG

reply

Jimmy Saville was one demented and sick individual. What a POS.

Lance Armstrong always threatening, bullying, and hurting the lives of people who could expose his "secret" was far worse IMO than him taking PEDs, which I think is just an unfortunate fact about most competitive sports.
