Did you like this movie?

This movie gets a lot of hate by the people, and a lot of love by the critics. Personally I loved this movie. I couldn't stop laughing when I saw it. The humour wasn't forced, nor grotesquely crude. It was clever in that it parodied spy films. Like the scene where Jude Law is running down a hill towards a boat and 10 bad guys are behind him shooting, all of them missing. That's the kind of thing you see in spy films. The difference is, its not supposed to be funny in spy films. That's why I think this movie succeeds. So, what do you think? Did you like it or not?

I hated it because it was the opposite of everything you've mentioned.
The humor was totally forced and it was not a clever as some people think it is.
The movie had zero cleverness, wit or style to separate this from the countless (and superior) spy parodies. It was just flat out laziness and outright lack of talent all across the board but the real issue is that it was just painfully unfunny.
You cannot solely rely on non-stop vulgarity and gross out humor without any sort of wit or cleverness. It comes off as just lazy.
I actually walked out of the theater after 90 minutes...and I saw it for free.

I got one of those free movie reward passes from a previous visit.

The funny thing is that I didn't even want to see this but with all the acclaim it received, I thought to give it a chance and hoped that McCarthy and Feig got their s*#& together and make an actual good movie and man, I was wrong. I walk out of the the theater after 90 mins.

I thought it was quite funny. Better than I went in expecting so maybe that's why I enjoyed it. Looking forward to a sequel.

A true cinema fan friend recommended it as "very funny." I bought a copy to give as a gift at Christmas but only recently saw it myself.

Not funny. Not clever. Not well written. Trite. More F bombs than In Bruges, where they were at least organic and appropriate.

Melissa McCarthy is getting dangerously close to being "that" character for the rest of her career. Heat and now Spy, basically same character if you assume she became the Heat character several years and several demotions after the Spy character.

really is not an overreaction . . This is one of the worst movies I've ever watched .. Yesterday I watched dirty grandpa .. and this movie (spy) is even double worse..

reply

agreed, this movie sucked. Typical Melissa McCarthy type movie, reminds me of something Seth Rogen would be in...horrible

I really enjoyed it too! I like that silly/serious humour but I can understand why people wouldn't enjoy it.

How I feel about this movie is the opposite of how the second replier felt. 8/10

Don't like what I'm saying? Then call 1800-Ima-CryBaby and ask for Waaaaaa.

It was OK, but over-rated. The improvisational humor of McCarthy is hit-or-miss. Sometimes funny and sometimes a dud. Some of the jokes amusing, some almost painful. The best I could give this was a mildly amusing "7" which is what pretty much every Paul Feig movie has gotten from me, until he has now tried to do a remake with a bunch of crap CGI which looks horrible. Ghostbusters will be lucky to get a 5 or a 6 from the looks of it.

I had a really bad Mother's Day weekend. My daughter and I decided to watch this and it singlehandedly saved my weekend. It was hilarious.

I absolutely loved it and pretty much for the same reasons you did. They managed to cleverly spoof a vast majority of over-the-top action spy flicks. The best parody was in the form of the awesome Jason Statham for his 'Rick Ford' character. Everything he said/did was hilarious. I felt this movie had a nice, smooth pace, great timing and the perfect blend of comedy and action to keep viewers engaged (not once was I bored by this film or remotely tempted to turn it off before the ending).

If we wanna hear you talk, I will shove my arm up your ass and work your mouth like a puppet!

I liked it too, but too much slow mo and swearing.

I personally loved it. I love movies with a ton of vulgar humor and strong female leads who are playing roles that are typically played by men. I think that's what played a part in the movie getting critical acclaim. It was an original take on typical spy movies while also parodying the genre. Celluloid, can I ask what you consider a good movie? Like one that genuinely impressed you? I can understand why some people wouldn't like a movie like this, it's just not their cup of tea, but I love to rewatch this movie.

I thought it sucked. Just really no wit or creativity in any of the jokes. It was basically written as if you can just throw an fu"+ in front of every phrase and bam there's the joke. The random stuff like bats in the office just seemed strange and made no sense. I also thought the dick scene was totally out of place in a "spy" movie, like just a really awkward weird scene. I think Statham was tolerable but I just couldn't get into the rest of the movie, and it was way too long.

While I didn't "love" it, I thought it was consistently amusing as parody; the real change came when Melissa McCarthy suddenly launched into that rant regarding the blond bodyguard somewhere around the midpoint of the movie; I have to think that this was an inspired piece of improvisation: it had me in tears (and I did love it for its absolute gross vulgarity) 😈 which makes any "flaws" (that others wish to point out) worth the whole movie....As for Statham's sense of humor, he started in comedy/parody with "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels," and "Snatch."

No, didn't like it.

I really liked this movie, it made me laugh a lot and I liked all the actors and the action and the plot. This time I have to agree with critics. I think a lot of people only dislike it because they "hate" Melissa McCarthy. This is just my opinion.

I watched it from reading positive reviews and I think I laughed possibly three or four times. I know it a satire, but for me the best characters were Jude Law and Jason Statham. For me, he had the best lines and a good deadpan delivery.
