Christopher is the worst actor

OT did you guys notice how gullible Chris was when it came to everything his mom said to them? He just went along with everything she said, at first i thought they were messing ard. i was glad he finally came to his senses towards the end though, but i was content with Cathy seeing straight through her mom

I liked Cathy and Christopher in this new version, but the mother and grandmother were awful. Ellen Burstyn is a brilliant actress, but I found it hard to believe the older kids would be afraid of her. When I read the book for the first time (after watching the original movie) I pictured Louise Fletcher as the grandmother...she's so scary she could make a grown man crap his pants!!

They were all bad, except maybe for Burstyn.

And why are people referring to him by the character's name?

He looked like the guy who played Peter in Narnia!

I thought Mason Dye did a great job as Chris. He really brought the character from the novel to life, the same way Kristy Swanson defined Cathy in the original. He started out as an immensely optimistic, radiant yet naive boy and was gradually brought into his senses throughout the course of the film. By the time the film had ended, Mason had managed to convey this shattered innocence within a full-fledged and traumatised Chris. Mason did justice to V.C. Andrews and I applaud him for that.

Kristy Swanson nailed Cathy. She was feisty, spirited, doubtful, sarcastic, vengeful, everything Cathy was in the books and Kiernan Shipka wasn't. I just couldn't buy Kiernan as Cathy. Corrine expresses early in the film that Cathy is "more aggressive and determined" but the character never really lived up to this characterisation. Maybe the problem was in the script, but nonetheless, I was greatly disappointed with this interpretation of Cathy. The only problem with Kristy, really (some hammy acting at times aside) was that she was in her late teens. Had she been in a production of Petals on the Wind, she would've rocked.

Christopher was fine, I think what people don't understand is that he remained calm and casual for so long under those tough circumstances because it took him forever before he could accept that his mother was betraying her children. It seemed like there were hints that one of the reasons why it took him longer to turn against his mother than it took Cathy was that he had some incestual feelings for his mother which he then transferred to Cathy. Didn't Christopher even make the comment when he saw Cathy dressed up in adult women's clothes that she looked beautiful "like Mom"? I think the author might be suggesting that in a dysfunctional family there are layers of incest with a potential for multiple pairings within the family.

I didn't find the actor that played Christopher to be too old. And I really hate when they cast older actors to play younger people. He certainly looked the part, and I thought his acting abilities were adequate for what was required of his part; it's really Cathy who is at the center of the story, and Christopher is kept a bit in the background. You wanna talk about "poor casting" choices? how about the 80's version of this story? Now THAT Christopher was awful, and really too old. And Cathy's fake looking wig was kind of ridiculous, as was the acting from most of that cast. i said this before, but fans should be really happy that Lifetime has picked up this series of cult books and is developing them into movies. Be especially grateful for the fact that this movie remained so faithful to the source material..
