Is this film Misogynistic ???

I haven't seen this movie, but I plan to see it with a girl. It surely attracts me as something different. However, there are a lot of posts being shared, mostly critics saying that this movie is very misogynistic, and something that will piss off a lot of ladies. So I ask the collective wisdom of IMDb, is it true ? Because I have some problem trusting critics, I would rather go with common viewers.

Because he plans to see it with a girl? I know that's a foreign concept to you, what with no woman being willing to be snuck into something on a date, but I don't think the guy who cannot tell morning from night without taking a bus trip to work should be calling someone ELSE an idiot...

What's going on? What's all this shouting? We'll have no trouble here...

reply

hes an idiot because he asks idiotic questions.

reply

I don't think it's an idiotic question at all. What makes you think it is? Keep in mind - your own idiocy hinges on your answer to this question.

reply

He's right, it's a pretty idiotic question.

reply

You make a strong, well supported case. Care to expand?

What's going on? What's all this shouting? We'll have no trouble here...

reply

Explain how it's idiotic.

reply

It was a reasonable question, he doesn't want to piss of his lady if this film happens to be misogynistic. How the hell is that a stupid question? It's not and you're a dumb ass. To answer the question, No it's not misogynistic however if your lady doesn't like violence I would steer her away.

reply

I don't think it's a stupid question either.

Maybe if she's that 3rd wave feminist who believes that everything is toxic masculinity and institutionalized sexism...
It's just a fun male macho movie, nothing more to it

reply

They will complain until they get a Hardcore Henrietta. lol

reply

I'm sure they'll be a porn version with that name. Not sure whether that will satisfy the feministas

reply

Feministas. How original. Just keep vomiting out the same ole tired stuff Rush.

reply

Sod off, you dumb *beep*

Hama cheez ba-Beer behtar meshawad!

reply

I know you're trying to make a complaint, but actually that would be rad as hell? Get a woman who can kick ass like Ronda Rousey or Gina Carano in the role and you'd be pretty much golden. I dunno, though, I grew up on Aliens and Terminator and Cynthia Rothrock movies so the idea of an action movie with a woman in the lead is something I'm fairly used to.

reply

Well I hope not. I don't know her that well, but she looks like a cool person, but its always a risk. Happened to me in 'Jurassic World', which my then date found really sexist. (I still don't see it). The other option is to play safe, and go see Jungle Book.

reply

Jurassic World kinda sorta had a sexist vibe in the beginning, but it definitely turned itself around when Bryce Dallas Howard went all Ripley on their asses in the second half!

What's going on? What's all this shouting? We'll have no trouble here...

reply

Jurassic World sexist? Only if you're an SJW

reply

sexist vibe how? Just curious. I really am blind to these things apparently.

reply

By vibe, I mean it's very minor. I'm not complaining at all - just saying that I recognize what people are complaining about, even if I don't personally agree with it. In fact, 'sexist' is probably FAR too strong of a word.

What people are responding to is the female character needing to be rescued repeatedly during the first act.

My main point, really though, was that her character is actually quite the opposite, because she becomes a real ass-kicker when the heat is turned up.

What's going on? What's all this shouting? We'll have no trouble here...

reply

Ok cool. thanks for answering.

So the whole damsel in distress thing. Got it.

reply

Yup. Again, not MY complaint, but the one that was going around...

What's going on? What's all this shouting? We'll have no trouble here...

reply

The damsel in distress thing happens a lot in life. I get sick of people complaining about it in films. Its real.

reply

What people are responding to is the female character needing to be rescued repeatedly during the first act.

The thing is, I've seen those complaints and those people are idiots (certainly not directed at you).

I remember seeing the tweets and those articles, but no one stopped to question a very simple fact: would the average, high-maintenance executive of a major corporation really be out there kicking dinosaur butt and roughing it up with a mercenary? I mean, really?! Could we even expect someone like Marissa Mayer to be out there running and fighting a hybrid T-rex?

Now if they wanted to argue that maybe the roles should have been reversed, then fine. I could see that point (where Bryce is the mercenary and Pratt was the executive).

But arguing that women need to be in positions of power and then not be damsels in distress in terrifying situations is just silly, especially since other than the mercs and soldiers, EVERYONE was in distress in Jurassic World.

Sorry for the rant, it's just that the people who make those stupid comments really do piss me off.

reply

Wow, that was INCREDIBLY racist...

reply

Hahaha

reply

Indeed..I can smell it from over here.

reply

In the current climate of feminista propaganda YES.

reply

Well, both lead characters are rather comic-like and the dude just happens to be the "cool" one while the woman is portrayed as "weak" and even somewhat unlikable at first... but I never linked that to the gender, it might just as well have been reversed. I thought the couple worked quite well together the way it was.

But I can see how people might argue that it's no coincidence that the guy is the tough hero and not the girl (although I never felt that way).

reply

In such a case i would suggest you to RUN AWAY FROM HER AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. Never get in bed with crazy.

reply

Holy *beep* your relationship must suck.

reply

Ha! Exactly!

reply

nope, to answer the OP's subject-line question.

Half the theater was couples, guy-girl couples to be specific. The two people that left were both men, not sure if they were a couple

reply

It is not in any perceivable way. Do you have a source on that critic? Can't even guess what they meant by that.

reply

Yeah, well the latest source is this ...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQbfhg4pkIo

I have also seen some blog posts shared on facebook about it as well.

reply

If anyone's interested, starts at 7:30 and her beef is that all girls in it are whores (despite that the first character you see is a female doctor)

I guess you'll always find it if it's all you're looking for so it doesn't matter if it's actually there or not. I can easily refute all of her points but I know you're just wondering for you date.

reply

Pretty silly complaint, as EVERYONE in the movie is essentially an awful person.

Every man in the film is a murderer or a lunatic.

reply

Every man in the film is a murderer or a lunatic.

And disposable. The disposable male is to misandry as the objectified female is to misogyny. But of course the reviewer had no issue with that.

Nor did I btw because I'm not looking to be offended. Just saying you can be easily offended by anything if that's all you're looking for.

reply

And her beef is that all the girls in it are whores

This made me laugh ^^^^

Because my wife says the same thing about all the girls in the real world.

reply

No, not really, but it does contain some nudity and a LOT of extremely graphic and bloody violence. I don't know your girl, but I would guess that she would not like it. Just sayin'.

Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar, and / or doesn't.

reply

Thanks man. I don't know her that well, but she seems cool. Also I have already suffered once with another girl, who found 'Jurassic World' to be quite sexist. So you never know ...

reply

You're welcome, Atkhan. I would rethink taking her to this flick. Just sayin'.....

Haven't read any such sentiments directed towards HH myself, Atk: what elements of the movie are they describing as misogynistic?

reply

I'm sure if you thought about it hard enough you could make it out to be sexist...

All joking aside, someone would have to be pretty touchy to be offended any amount during the movie. The edgiest thing is probably the main villain being portrayed as a bad guy because he likes rape (I'm sure that is an offense to certain people), and an action sequence takes place in a brothel w/naked women running around.

I mean, there isn't much to really ponder, as the plot moves so fast, and everything is from the protagonist's POV, there isn't much time for the movie to be sexist.

It all depends on your date I guess.

Good luck mate.

reply

Yeah; a dude who not only commits rape but enjoys it is offensive to just some people.....

reply

Lol, I mean using that as the way to distinguish him as evil could be perceived as offensive by some people
