Basement full of water
Did it bother anyone else that the basement had like 4 foot of standing water at all times, and no one seemed to care? That water leak was 10x scarier than the demon.

shareAll I could do while watching it was like "What is with that water (hope there's no exposed electric), that old chair, the lead paint chipping from behind the chair." I realize you gotta make things look creepy, but it totally took me out of it.
shareMaybe it was there so they could put that jump scare in it ;)
shareI thought there is going to be subsidence.
shareAgreee. It made me think "these people need a plumber...and biscuits"
shareLol, so cookies are biscuits in England, right? I mean, they looked like cookies. I don't know, if that's the case, I find it weird they call them biscuits. Would they call Cookie Monster 'Biscuit Monster'?
shareCookies are biscuits but biscuits aren't cookies ;)
we call bread based products something other than biscuits also because bread based products are clearly nothing at all to do with biscuits, unless you are American. ;)
Lol. Thought there might be a goonies type situation going on down there
shareThat house was so massive it is probably converted to 2-3 flats by now.
shareThat is how Hollywood perceive English houses, reminded me of spomgebob pineapple house, small from the outside but massive from the inside. Made me lough so much when you look how big are the bedrooms... the kitchen, the living room is probably half of the size in the movie.
shareYes, bizarre to say the least, how would any house like that be safe to live in?
shareJust watched the movie and this annoyed me sooo much, I've lived in many old U.K. Houses and none off the basements were filled with water! I was googling to find out if some houses were built over underground rivers etc, was just so bizarre! Who would live in a house with 4 ft of water in the basement, just so odd!
shareI'm willing to bet none of the many old homes you lived in had major water leaks... that could be why they didn't have water. After all, basements aren't supposed to have standing water. They did this in the movie to put emphasis on how poor the family was, and how difficult things are for a single mother. She couldn't afford a plumber, and couldn't fix it herself.
sharethat whole house looked disgusting to live in. the walls behind the chair the old man sat on looked like it was moulding. and the kitchen looked rusted as hell.
dont know if they were trying to make it look more creepy but the whole disgusting look of the house really took me out of the movie
Welcome to working class 70s britain! ;)
seriously though, this wasn't filmed at the real house, but did houses like that even have basements? They are quite rare in normal semi detached low budget UK housing as far as I know. It felt like they found a house that had one specifically for the plot of the movie? Maybe I'm wrong but most houses of that type I've seen rarely had basements in the UK. Was it just a London thing?
And yeah, the cracks in the floorboards above the basement with all that water underneath was probably creepier than the supernatural stuff. I couldn't live there knowing one dodgy floorboard would mean I'm going to take a dive into 4 feet of cold, dirty water from 12 feet above.
That said, spirts are "supposed" to be more active around water so that would explain why that house (the movie house) was haunted up the wazoo ;)
Ha, you sound like kind of a puss, to be honest.
