It's disgusting how they refuse to cast women of the same age

as the leading man. I'm not even an older woman and I wouldn't support this movie for this reason. I'm just sick of it. It's sexist.

In the movie, his love interest is Elizabeth, the woman from the WHO. And she older, just like him. So, no. I don't see the problem.

Also

I'm not even an older woman

So, you're defending a group you're not a part of?

reply

The decision by Brown to create a younger 20 something female protagonist to pair up with his much older male protagonist is a bit unrealistic... but hey it certainly will push for more movie ticket sales rather than to cast a 60 something year old Helen Mirren type actor.

Unrealistic by what metric? Since when do people you interact with must be from the same age as you?

reply

I have zero interest in this movie, but you DO know, that you can defend groups you're not a part of, right?

IMDb: A place where actors are complimented for their acting, actresses for their boobs

you can, but that's just being a cuck

Firstly, Tom Hanks is about 15 years too old for Langdon. It makes a damn difference. Langdon gives an air of a fairly sleek youngish-looking dude. Tom just doesn't (and, if you ask me, he never did).

Secondly, the women in the books are usually in their early 30s. Still a 10+ yers age gap but not as glaring as in movies.

Thirdly, there is hardly any romantic tension in most of the books. Langdon did apparently hook up with his female counterparts in Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code, but that happens as a side note in the end of the novels and there was nothing between him and Felicity Jones' character, or the girl from Lost Symbol.

So yeah, here you have it. Just write your own damn book with kickass middle-aged women in it. BTW, Dan Brown has actually done that in Digital Fortress.

I know!. Later in the movie it´s explained how it´s not a romance between them but anyways.... they´re playing along each other the whole movie. And then she´s this doctor, oh! but she´s a genius so that´s why she´s very Young. Oh!, and she has this boyfriend who is also young as her .....

The thing is that any old lead actor should always have a young female co-star, no matter what the relationship is. He shall not be seen with women his age.

She was in her mid thirties. Way past peak fertility

Oh and that WHO woman? No way Tom Hanks would be interested in a woman old enough to have HRT. I nearly walked out in disgust.

reply

They have to cast what people, aka "MEN" want to see

reply

Are you a SJW or feminist who just likes to complain without knowing what the hell you are talking about?

As others have pointed out, in this instance the movie is true to the source material. Go complain to the author if you want.

I agree with what you're saying, here.

Regardless of who's doing the writing or the casting; in Hollywood... the leading actress is almost always much younger than the lead male.

In this particular movie, it's a bit over-the-top; as the actress also looks a lot younger than she actually is, to the point where she could still easily play roles as a high-school student.

In one scene, Hanks character even has to pretend that Felicity's character is, "his niece," which proves that the story is fully aware of the conundrum that it itself has created.

But, that's Hollywood for you. Exploitation of young women at its finest.

That said, for whatever reason... most actresses age a bit faster than their male counterparts. However, it isn't always true. There's always a Sandra Bullock or a Halle Berry out there. But, there are few and far between them.

I agree that a woman of a more appropriate age, would fit in much more realistically, playing alongside a mature man. But, for their own reasons, Hollywood keeps forcing these damsels in distress down our throats.

Apparently, there are enough "fans" that defend this behavior... so it continues.
