By the halfway point I'd completely mentally checked out and couldn't care less about the movie or its characters any longer. The movie is almost over as I type this and I cannot wait!!!
Why do you say only straight males? What are your assumptions about gay males that would lead you to believe this movie is not something they’d enjoy? Seems to me you’re doing exactly what a lot of people dislike, and making assumptions about gay people and what they do and do not like.
"Straight male-nip"
In other words, box office gold. What are you even doing watching anything like this? Don't you know the pulse enough to avoid this and all other 10/10 action movies like Predator, etc??
I kind of agree. I love great action films but John Wick is just too invulnerable so there is little tension during the fights. He’ll pop out from behind a pillar and shoot his gun, and a bad guy conveniently appears from behind another pillar just in time for the bullet to miraculously arrive in his forehead. Rinse and repeat.
I actually thought the films got better with each new instalment. They were more inventive, had bigger budgets, and made Wick a little less invincible.
His invincibleness is the problem. I think thats part of what the OP was getting at.
The invincibleness needs toning down much much further , to make the movies not seem like cartoon superhero movies and something actually based in "our universe"
Have to agree.
Somehow I heard something good about John Wick and hoped I had missed a well done film with some tension and surprise.
But once the shooting started, I realized this was the only point of the exercise.
The set-up was tolerable - but barely - by looking very stylish and having some suspense. But it turned into a grind (for me) with endless implausible action. If that's all the movie has to offer, then it's not for me.
I'm not a huge fan of Unforgiven, but it looks like a sensitive, thoughtful piece of art compared to the first Wick film, from what I saw.
As always, ymmv
Yes. Perhaps unwisely I will use it as a film I find, although competently executed and certainly watchable, sort of static and formulaic. But since Unforgiven is pretty old itself, I probably shouldn't be using it in the context of a John Wick discussion. In fact, it's really not much of an action film, so I probably shouldn't have brought it up at all. Sorry for not advancing the convo in a better fashion.
yeah , an odd choice because the mindlessness of Wick makes pretty much any film look like "a sensitive, thoughtful piece of art " . Thats why i had to check there wasnt some other "unforgiven" i didnt know about
It'd make the point better if you pick some shlock like "under siege" : )
