A great fun movie

It does have it's problems, but I had a rockin' good time. The cinematography is superb (save for some of the CGI which look like something out of a PS5 game), the acting was very good, the action sequences are fun, the comedy isn't too exaggerated, and the music fits. Plus I liked that the movie used some animatronic costumes for the monsters in certain scenes (which I won't spoil to those who haven't seen the film yet). Check it out.

Looked fun from the trailers. Too bad it looks like the movie's gonna flop. Unless word of mouth spreads well enough.

reply

Maybe it'll do better internationally. Only time will tell.

reply

Yeah maybe, like a Pacific Rim situation.

reply

Yeah. That being said, the marketing for the film was very awkward. It's like the producers were like, "Let's add a Led Zeppelin song in the trailers." I get that the song itself came out in the same decade where the actual Dungeons & Dragons game debuted, but I thought that made it weird.

reply

Given its BO projections, I guess other people felt the same way.

It was the #1 movie, beating John Wick 2. Add to that it has very positive word of mouth and doesn't have much competition for a month, it has a real shot at being a sleeper hit.

They are very much trying to paint this inline with Thor Ragnar, which is to say it doesn't take itself too seriously. They don't want this to appear to be a D&D fanboy exclusive. I was very pleasantly surprised at how good it was.

reply

Yes. And believe me, this is WAY better than that awful 2000 movie that starred Jeremy Irons.

reply

I think I might have seen that, but couldn't tell you anything about it.

reply

Good thing you didn't cause trust me, the reviews are WAY better than the movie itself.

reply

The ending was a bit

reply

a bit what?

reply

I didn't mind it. Like you, I can admit it's imperfect, but I still quite enjoyed it.

reply

Yes, it was good fun.

I read this movie was good, but wow, I loved it! I was expecting Marvel schlock and it somehow managed to not fall into that too much. I've always thought Chris Pine was kinda bland but he was great here too. Actually I wasn't expecting anything of any of the cast but everyone did a good job.

I would love a sequel, but this is such a great standalone film too. Kudos to everyone involved.
