I just assumed he beat him unconscious, took back his ID, stole the watch and left. The guard didn’t seem to have taken any notes of his license plate and no cameras so Lou left no trace other than some tire marks and bruises to the guard. The sale of the goods seemed to be the same night so they wouldn’t have worked that fast and altogether you have way too much trust in the police to solve an assault and/or robbery.
According to pew research article about crime in the US:
“The clearance rate was lower for aggravated assault (52.3%), rape (32.9%) and robbery (30.5%). When it comes to property crime, law enforcement agencies cleared 18.4% of larcenies/thefts, 14.1% of burglaries and 13.8% of motor vehicle thefts.”
