I agree on most points but the worse by far is *beep* Jackson. How does this ridiculous moron keep getting parts? He must be well connected.
When I saw the trailer, I thought it looked like a decent Hot Fuzz spy movie but Jackson got on my nerves already so I decided not to go see it in the theatre.
Then I thought, can't be that bad. Wrong. Jackson ruins the movie with his ridiculous lisp and over the top acting. The movie works with everyone else because they do not act like *beep* morons, they act like they would in a serious movie.
The product placement was just like Jackson: out of place and over the top.
I do disagree on the last two points though. It made sense in the context of the movie.
They didn't send anyone without a parachute but it was important for them to believe one of them could die, to test their team spirit and to see if they could "think on their feet" while under intense pressure.
Same with the dog. The gun was loaded with blanks so they didn't need them to shoot the dog, they needed to see if they could obey an order even if they didn't want to.
So they had reasons.
