Masterful Suspense Builder

I have never understood the derision of M Night's work, especially the tiresome, childish renditions of his name. Even the South Park kids left that behind years ago.

Trap is a treat for any viewer who is up for being provided brilliant cinematography that coaxes the audience to guess the possibilities for escape with each step Cooper takes around the concert venue. The same goes for the tense deadly cat/mouse interactions with those whom he encounters. The humor is brilliantly injected just when needed, but often unexpectedly.

The song lyrics and settings also contributed insight into Cooper's complex, disturbed, but fascinating mind, as did the flawless score.

Josh Hartnett delivered the duality of his highly original character with perfection. I have not payed much attention to him in the past, but this performance will change that.

The twists are unique to our current times and culture and are highly original.

After seeing it, I read reviews from critics who more often than not, nail the essence of a good movie. They gave Trap positive, clever reviews that are much deserved.

Thanks for this review. I had a hard time believing it was that bad. It actually looks very good to me from the trailer I've seen.

I think Shyamalan has done some extremely good films. Split was absolutely fantastic!! Old, A Knock at The Cabin, The Visit, The Village and who can forget The Sixth Sense were all good movies IMO.

I look forward to seeing this when it comes on streaming.

You are welcome. I found this re streaming possibilities.

"Expected Digital and Streaming Release
The timeline for a Warner Bros. film’s transition from theatrical release to digital streaming can vary based on its box office performance. For instance, Warner Bros.' successful film Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire made its PVOD debut approximately six weeks after its theatrical release. If Trap mirrors this trend and performs well, viewers can expect it to be available on PVOD around Friday, September 13, or Tuesday, September 17. It will also be available on MAX."

There will surely be more streaming platforms available but this is what's out there now. Enjoy!

The movie sucked and you have to be mentally handicapped if you think otherwise

I thoroughly enjoyed Trap, which I saw this evening and I’m still buzzing about it. Ok some parts were predictable, but it was still tense with a bit of humour too. I would defo watch it again.

I wouldn't give this movie such high praise. There are far too many incredulous details, and the payoff was poorly done. You praise Cooper's character whereas I feel he's a little undeveloped. the movie held my interest from start to end, but the movie is flawed. 6/10

Josh is the reason I watched at all. I thought it was a decent, maybe 5 or 6/10 movie...there were definitely opportunities over and over to guess/predict what was next, and there is definite suspense.

At one point I thought the singer was actually FBI and then later, that his wife was the butcher after all. LOL!

Can you give an example of what you mean here? I've seen this in a couple reviews and no one elaborates on it.

reply

I saw it on opening weekend, so it has been a while.

The first example coming to mind is the very timely parallel to Taylor Swift mania.

Next, the use of iPhone cameras and social media to reach Saleka's fans and law enforcement.

The current and ever-present "girl power" theme I would also include. (I am female and weary of it)

The legions of scary movies that have played on tv during the October run-up to Halloween are all products of their decade and the technology available when filmed.

Except The Black Phone (2021) was a rotary landline (which enhanced the creep/hopeless factor).

reply

It's at least a solid 7. Suspense was well done.
