So much fuss over 10 seconds? Surely it's a joke?

After reading for weeks how everybody were going nuts about Sulu being gay, finally got to watch the movie, and "the scene" is like 10 seconds, he briefly hugs some guy and that's it, that's the big shock?

Haha, I still can't believe so many went blue in the face and are still discussing it to death, I mean you could easily miss the whole scene if you opened your coke or took some popcorn at the wrong time, I pretty much missed it myself and had to rewind to see what was going on. First world problems all the way.

I don't think it was a big deal, but it was rather silly to portray a Star Trek character based on sexual preferences of the actor who once played that character. Actually, more ridiculous that silly.

According to Simon Pegg, they wanted to include a gay character into this alternate Star Trek universe because ST is suppose to be inclusive, and they didn't want to just create a new character and make him gay because then that character would just be seen as the mere token gay character. So they wanted to turn a character whom we're all already familiar with gay, and they decided it would be Sulu, maybe it's because George Takei is gay, I don't know, but that's the decision they went with.

George Takei was furious about it because he said Gene made Sulu straight and straight he should have remained. George being mad made fans mad as well. HE IS Sulu.

Some people are very easily triggered.

I must have missed it while yawning.
