whod have ever thought a sequel trilogy would be as controversial/reviled as the Prequels!

The PT spilt everyone down the middle (maybe not so much ROTS but that too had its critics with Padme's death, 'NOOOOO!!' etc. Obviously TPM was the big one for controversy and then AOTC had a fair bit too). Now the dream like mythical still can't believe they actually did them ST has unbelievably done the same! (TFA less so but that wasn't exactly without its critics. and hasn't exactly got much in the way of rewatchabilty. TLJ is undoubtedly the biggie in te controversy stakes. and ROTS is getting some for ignoring/overwriting TLJ, Palatines return etc)..

Then again ROTJ managed to do it back in 83.. (ewoks, remake of ANH/another deathstar)

So really there hasn't been a bone fide universally loved truly awesome classic SW film since the ESB in 1980! (and at the time even that too had its critics for its darkness.. at least until a few years later when everyone realised just how much of a masterpiece it was)

So its the almost the same as the likes of Terminator, Alien, Superman - where there hasn't been a truly great universally loved entry since the 2nd film in the series (and coming after the 1st instant classic movie) despite all the numerous entries since, that have been met with 'uhhh..meh. maybe they'll get it right next time' (by contrast Star Trek has been consistently hit and miss with its film entries )

Taken just as FILMS, the ST is MUCH better than the PT, imo.

Let's not kid ourselves. The Di$ney Trilogy on the whole is perceived significantly worse & far sooner than the prequels ever were. Plenty of people, myself included largely enjoyed the prequels even as we acknowledged they weren't flawless. The over the top hate of the prequels actually from a vocal segment of the fan base actually cooled with time & I see the opposite happening with the Di$ney Trilogy if people bother to remember it at all in 10-15 years. Whatever your opinion about them, the prequels were Star Wars. The Di$ney Trilogy will be remembered as nothing but a sloppy, cheap imitation.

And opinions aside, if you didn't like the prequels, fine. They didn't undermine the OT's narrative the way the Di$ney undermines the overarching narrative of both the OT & the PT. On top of that, the decision was made to have nearly four decades of EU reconnected out of existence in order for the Di$ney trilogy to exist.

So no let's not engage in inaccurate historical revisionism. The Di$ney Trilogy isn't just bad film making, supposedly some may feel "like the prequels", but the much more significant tragedy of irreparably damaging the lore & brand of Star Wars, while adding absolutely nothing to it.

Let's not kid ourselves. The Disney Trilogy on the whole is perceived much better than the prequels ever were. Plenty of people, myself included largely enjoyed the Disney Trilogy even as we acknowledge they weren't flawless. The over the top hate of the sequels actually from a vocal segment of the fan base will cool with time & I see the opposite happening with the prequel Trilogy if people bother to remember it at all in 10-15 years we didnt have the internet trolls we do now. Whatever you opinion about them, the sequels are Star Wars. The Disney Trilogy will be remembered as great new start outside of the greedy Lucas era.

And opinions aside, if you didn't like the sequels, fine. They didn't undermine the OT's narrative the way the prequels undermine the overarching narrative of the OT with Midi-chlorians as intelligent microscopic life forms that lived symbiotically inside the cells.

So no let's not engage in inaccurate historical revisionism. The Disney Trilogy is just good film making, supposedly some may feel "like the prequels", but much better for the lore & brand of Star Wars.

Stop putting words in Threadkiller's mouth, you nameless ba$tard.

There were some clues.

The fact that Disney openly erased all of the established lore, story, and canon to make way for their own shit was a major sign.

George Lucas knew. That's why he punted this franchise.
