Poe Dameron

Does anybody like this character, or Oscar Isaac in this role?

To me this character is air, literally. He has no charm, charisma anything. Just air.

Not knocking Isaac, he's good in other movies.

Yeah, he's cool.

And hot.

In the trailer it shows Mary Sue flying the Millennium Falcon. What good is Poe if he is a pilot and he isn’t even flying the stupid ship?

For me, when I sat down to watch The Force Awakens the night it opened, I was skeptical. A new Star Wars film? After the absolute trash that were the prequels, I was skeptical. J.J. Abrams directing gave me hope as he has a solid track record, but I didn't know if anything could ever recapture the feel of the originals. And then Poe Dameron appeared onscreen and I was drawn in. I had never heard of or seen Oscar Isaac before, and he looked like someone that had been plucked from 1977. Leading men don't look like that anymore. Everything about him exuded 1970s Hollywood, to the point that I almost couldn't believe he was a real, live, modern human being. At that moment, I suddenly felt like I was in for something special, and the film did not disappoint. Isaac's performance is fantastic, and he is one of the key elements that makes The Force Awakens feel larger-than-life, and like a true heir to the Star Wars name.

I'm happy you feel this way, but I have the exact opposite opinion. To me he feels like he does not belong in SW at all. He is as far away from 1977 as you can get. And his character is a very weak attempt to make a colorful wisecracking Star Wars character like in the original trilogy (Han Solo, Lando type). He is simply very boring.

But yeah, if it works for you that is good.
