Probably a good idea to ignore some people here

Yeah. I've only been on moviechat for awhile.
It's a big internet and places like this don't have a lot of people but certain kinds of trolls congregate in places like this.
Looking forward to discussing Star Wars with people who are into these movies but I'm blocking some of the jokers (or maybe it's one joker with multiple accounts).
Life is too short to argue with this type of person.

My god, an entire thread about ignoring people and reporting people.

What the hell ever happened to, "ok, I know I'm not going to have any constructive discussion with this person, I'm just not going to respond or bite on the post".

Instead there are now posts about all the people someone is going to put on "ignore", and high five posts about someone "reporting" someone.

I long for when people had a spine. If you don't like a post, simply don't respond to it. If someone says something that offends you, don't respond to it. Move on. So simple.

This place really is like kindergarten. I take a ton of pride in the fact I've never put anyone on an "ignore" list, and that I'm not so weak minded that a few "offensive" words have me tattling on, excuse me, "reporting" people like this is preschool. Just laugh and shrug it off, for fuck's sake.

What the entire hell has happened to society? I truly don't think people can get any more thin skinned.

Anyone on this site could say to me "Your Mom is a worthless twat waffle"...and I would laugh, and simply go about my business. How do people get so offended by random people on the internet? People you will never meet. Random people around the world on another end of a computer.

Plus, this site is for discussion...isn't it really boring if people agree with you all the time? I love the debates, whether vulgar or sincere, I love to argue about movies.

Man, I'm just bummed reading this entire thread, but hey, using my own logic, I tip my cap, and choose to move on. No one ignored, no one reported.

I hate 2019. Have a good day everyone, whether you disagree with me or not. Find your spine.

It's not a matter of think skin. They're NOT really offended. They're disgusted.

When people are fully convinced to carry some Truth, any disagreement from that Universal Truth is seen as an act of evilness. That's human psyche 101, that's the basis of religious persecution. This is not about offense in the usual sense, like somebody insulting you or your family. This is more about religious hate: the hate for those people who don't accept that Truth.

They're not think-skinned. They're true believers.

Instead there are now posts about all the people someone is going to put on "ignore", and high five posts about someone "reporting" someone.

That's predictable. This is how religion works: when they can't counter-argument, they save their faith imagining they're facing some skillful liar that twists the truth. This is why they feel they should report, and shadow-ban, and ban, and even jail (no joke, ask modern Germans). They think they don't have enough skill to argument, but they still have the Truth, so it feels fine to censor those Devils that Twist the Truth.

It's nothing new. Why do you think the Devil is often portrayed as a persuasive liar?. The origin of that myth is the unability to counter-argument. What do you do when you don't know what to argument? You save your faith imagining your facing so skillful snake, some silver-tongued liar, some pervasive devil that should be silenced for the sake of the Truth.

I understand, some people can be a real headache. But I don't put people on ignore because I try not to let meaningless comments get to me. Just not responding works pretty well and, tbh, when someone rants to the extreme, they make the argument for you that their opinions aren't valid. Also, they're kind of a laugh.

Besides, I think sometimes talking out heated opinions leads to healthy discussions. And it's always good to find someone you can have respectful disagreements with - those are interesting conversations to be a part of.
