Ep7 proved most of us "fans" would swallow whatever garbage they put in front of us as long as IT APPEARED to treat the storyline and UNIVERSE with the respect it deserved...albeit a touch ham handed and repetetive, that was sort of the way of the trilogies in general... and history tends to repeat if the same mistakes are made.
Then came Ep8...

You know how in Rogue One, Mon Mothma looked like the other versions of her, but at a younger age?! How the surrounding cast had a semblance of talent and understanding of the source material??? None of that was present in Ep8! Hardly any were present in Ep7, but you won't hear me complain about that because IT LOOKED like they were gonna treat the story with some respect, not change every gods damn thing JUST TO CHANGE IT!
