I really liked this episode, it was so intriguing... until the reveal.
Agreed. I mean, on the one hand...I'm glad it didn't turn out to be a sociopath totally f-ing with her, because the girl seemed really vulnerable and volatile. But for "entertainment value" I was half wondering if it'd have some Phantom of the Opera type outcome...that would have been so twisted haha. Don't know if you know the story, but it reminded me of that in the set up...in the story, the "phantom" character was playing off of the young woman's sadness over her father's death, pretending he was an angel sent by her dead father...and she bought it because she was vulnerable and wanted to believe it...and then the "catfish" is revealed just as a really hideous (dangerous) man who's obsessed in love with her. Geeze, imagine if it'd taken THAT turn in this episode...if "Courtney the medium" really turned out to be a very unattractive man obsessed with her and just trying to get close to her. I was like that'd seem pretty sick in real life, lol!
Anyway. Or it could have been a predator looking for money or getting kicks off of messing with people. I suppose it could still BE that, but....who knows.
My point...I'm glad it wasn't revealed in the show that she was malicious and torturing this poor girl for some sinister reason. However, it did sort of end on a deflated balloon, unresolved note for me. Really intriguing set up like you said. And then just like...oh. Okay. So...we're supposed to buy it...she's a real medium? Even Nev and Max are drinking the kool-aid? hmm....
