BULL****

Really? A psychic?

I don't believe in that stuff, but the one thing that was pretty impressive was knowing that disturbing foster mom story. Maybe that knowledge was actually more public than they were aware of, or maybe the foster mom herself, being "haunted" and all, was involved somehow in this.

I liked seeing something different in this episode, but I was disappointed that it didn't entail an interesting twist or Courtney's exposure as a fraud.

reply

That foster mom information could likely come out in trial as part of his mental illness defense.

There's no question this episode was fake. Consider: at the beginning, the aunt takes the guy from the show aside and warns him "there are things she doesn't know, I'm scared she'll find them..."

What happens later in the episode? The psychic reveals those exact things, which is what causes the girl to believe in the psychic. Isn't that a massive coincidence?

Not to mention the fact that if the aunt really didn't want her niece to know there were untoward things about her mother, why would she say there were on camera, knowing her niece would be watching this when it airs?

reply

I'm wondering if the entire story is fake, even the father murdering the mother part. I tried finding the story using the name of the town (Shepherdsville, KY), the details (stabbed over 27 times), a range of dates (14 years ago, so 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003), and the first names of the parents, but couldn't find information on it. Admittedly, I could just be bad at researching, but it seems like that would be a pretty big story, with at least some coverage. That's a fair amount of specific detail, but nothing relevant pops up.

Ooooh, good idea! Let me do some digging also.

Found this:

Man found guilty of killing girlfriend
The Associated Press
SHEPHERDSVILLE — A Bullitt County jury on Friday found a man guilty of murdering his pregnant girlfriend.

Frank Harbin Jr., 25, was sentenced to life in prison. He admitted to fatally stabbing Kimberly J. Krebs, 22.

Ms. Krebs was found Nov. 11, 1999, at Mr. Harbin's mother's trailer home in Shepherdsville, where Ms. Krebs was living. She suffered more than 20 stab wounds.

Mr. Harbin was seeking an acquittal by reason of insanity or extreme emotional distress. The jury deliberated 10 hours before returning his conviction.

Mr. Harbin was arrested the day after Ms. Krebs' body was found after a high-speed chase in Elizabethtown that ended when he crashed into a police cruiser.

Searching Kimberly Krebs turns up quite a bit of stuff, including an Ancestry profile. Newspapers.com has complete scans of the newspaper pages from Kentucky with detailed information about the case.

Nice. I estimated the dates incorrectly, I think that's what threw off my search results. So the story is real. That's somehow a good thing--that these people aren't manufacturing such a tragedy.

Still, the episode seems more exploitative than usual. I feel like they were taking advantage of the desire of the daughter to have some kind of relationship with her parents or explanation for what happened.

He was seeking an acquittal? Doesn't sound like he was remorseful even though he told Kayla that he was.

Its a true story as I live in ky and know of the story it happened in 1999 I googled it and found it just fine so obviously u didn't do something right when u searched it just sayin

These were my thoughts as well. The whole thing seemed way too artificial, in my opinion. I do believe that some people are more spiritually perceptive and able to see beyond what we call "reality", but I don't believe that this incident is authentic.

reply

I am not sure how i feel about this stuff.

My skeptical nature makes me want to say "BS", but i also know that i personally have experienced some strange stuff in my life that i just can't explain.

"Luke Skywalker has vanished."

reply

That's how I felt.

If people want to believe in psychics and mediums then that's their decision. I don't believe in it and I think this episode was a cheap gimmick. I miss old Catfish.
