When do you think it all started to go wrong?

So I re-watched TFA recently, the first since when it was first released in the theatres. In my opinion, I think it started off ok, new characters getting precedence over the originals and all that. Thought that Finn and Poe's escape by Tie-fighter was a bit cheesy tho. Came across as an action sequence bolted on to the story for the sake of having an action sequence.
There's a shot of Rey sitting against a fallen AT-AT, surrounded by sand dunes. She puts on a helmet and looks up. OK she aspires to be a pilot on a desert planet. Deja-vu anyone? But...
Not only has she got the Millenium Falcon on her doorstep, she can fly it too! It's still junk status though, despite being the most iconic ship in the galaxy. And then it kind of snowballs from there. Unexplainable Force powers, expert piloting skills, even knows the Falcon's systems inside out.
Then Luke's back story is revealed (rolls eyes)

EWOKS IN THE 80'S were awesome. Maybe because I was 7 they had a different affect on me. Looking back at Jedi I really enjoy all the Ewok scenes and wish there were more.

It started to go wrong the moment Lucas sold out to Disney, and Kathleen The Bitch Kennedy got her claws into it. Force is Female, my ass.

Well at the production/management level that is likely true; i think the question was specific to in the film itself.

I do agree, but by the holy book, do you ever NOT talk about anti-SJW shit? Like, every single post I see from you always seems to crowbar in how much you dislike transgenderism or leftist politics in films, even if they're ever so slightly there or not there at all. Like, you're not wrong about some of it, but you seem pretty obsessed over this topic to the point of where I'm concerned, AmeriGirl26.

But yes, the exact spot it all went wrong was when Lucas sold the rights to Disney, and then Disney handed the property over to Kathleen Kennedy. They had their motives and ideas from the get-go, and they were all the wrong ideas.

The parts where Rey's daily life was depicted was awesome and aspiring. I was really rooting for a great Star Wars movie. Selling junk to buy instant-bread, sitting by that fallen AT-AT, staring at the skies.

Then they went ahead and 1970s'ed the whole thing. Laughable domination plans of the First Order, incompetent baddies, very unlikely odds, huge battlestations with an easily accessible kill switch, etc. Just the daily life of Rey living off collecting desert junk would be a better Star Wars film.

Off-topic but, when was Millenium Falcon the most iconic ship in the galaxy? It's a pretty basic light freighter no one would turn their heads to look at a second time.

I loved the day in the life bits of Rey! It's easily the best part of the whole new trilogy.

If I remember right, the reason why the Falcon is so special that somebody fitted a gigantic hyperdrive engine into a shitty old freighter. It's like one of them jet engine bikes. Because of that, precious little of the cargo hold would be available to haul anything. Whatever Han and Chewie were in the business of smuggling was small and valuable. It's possible the ship would have a hell of a reputation after helping destroy a couple Death Stars.

Yeah, supposedly, it was kind of like an old pickup truck made into a dragster, even though how different it was from most other ships was not clearly expressed. Still, it didn't really show, and wasn't really distinguishable from a regular YT-1300, which also isn't something extraordinary. I mean, no one will point their finger at a YT-1300 and say "Hey look! The same model of ship as the fabled Millenium Falcon!"

It blew up the second Death Star and played a vital role in blowing up the first. Also Kessel run etc.

I'm sure in a galaxy of millions of biological planets and hundreds of thousands of civilizations, nobody would really know which particular ships helped destroy the death stars. Even someone who participated in the two death star battles would not really know. And, Kessel Run was probably something Han Solo was exaggerating (even bullshitting) to promote his ship and himself.

Yeah if you had to pick a particular moment that would be a good place to point to. There are so many though it is hard to narrow it down.

Definitely, TIE fighters are one of the few most nimble fighter aircraft in Star Wars, and are piloted by trained combat pilots, yet they drop like flies chasing the Falcon. We should be scared being chased by military aircraft, but the thread is not present in this sequence.

It Went wrong when fans were dumb enough to go to the prequels just to finish the series. After the opening of Attack of the clones, I was done. Then, I was forced to watch revenge of the Sith and I vowed to never watch a star wars movie again. It's been pretty good since. No complaints about JJ Abrams or Rian Johnson because I've only seen their own movies (reasonably) without having a bad taste left in my mouth by fandom expectations about star wars. Though, I should have done the same with Star Trek. The first two reboots are not good.
