This plot is becoming cliche and boring
Too many movies doing simple versions of this plot.
shareI hate the whole "the human-looking machines are mad and fed up because actual humans are treating them like machines" trope.
My car doesn't get mad that I leave it out in the driveway in the rain and blazing sun, just sitting there until I need to use it. Imagine if your car looked like a human and it just stood there in the driveway indefinitely until you needed it.
"Oh these poor robots. Look how they treat them." Yes, and I keep my can opener in a kitchen drawer, too.
'My car doesn't get mad that I leave it out in the driveway in the rain and blazing sun, just sitting there until I need to use it. Imagine if your car looked like a human and it just stood there in the driveway indefinitely until you needed it.'
That is one creepy image.
And that's exactly my point. If your car looks like a car, you don't care that it's there in the driveway day after day. If it looks like it's human, even though it's just a machine, and it's just standing there doing nothing, then it's creepy.
It's the human appearance that invokes the empathy from people for these machines.
I'm sure 'The Outer Limits' (1995) did it explicitly better; however, a "recent" show 'Humans' (2015) was similar, as implied but none of that was really part of the show's narrative, which was a better/neo telling of a tired plot.
I'll prolly need to re-watch 'Humans' to make sure what I said above is correct though.
I watched Humans all the way up until one single part
* spoilers for Humans ahead *
When the sex robot is suddenly "disgusted" when a client asks her to act like a scared young girl. Somehow this was the straw that broke the camel's back that caused the robot to rebel and seek her independence.
How would a robot know that is an abhorrent behavior unless she was programmed to know? And if she did, why the hell would she care? If I told my laptop to show me an objectionable website, my laptop doesn't suddenly become disgusted at my behavior and rebel against me. It's so preposterous.
Welp, just shows how bad my memory is getting hehe. I'll need to watch the show again sometime.
shareI think it was a mistake to go the horror route. Just make it an erotic romance or something;people will watch that.
shareThat's correct.
They need to do a twist on it where the AI is extremely dangerous but no one knows it.
My friend likes to watch true crime shows and many of the stories are exactly the same where a husband/wife takes an insurance policy out on the other and then kills them. That or some rich guy has a business and then people set him up for murder to take his money. Also, there's real life stories where a family member gets involved with drug gangs and everyone gets murdered or teenage romance ends up in murder.
If you insert an AI maid, etc into that kind of plot it would be cool for them to see through all of the human criminals and then kill them all off ninja style all while the humans around them don't know what's happening.
That would put a twist on AI because a great helpful aid for humans while making the movie a horror, thriller, crime drama.
