I personally always thought that Wayne Brady could've played the part. He certainly has the talent: he is a good impersonator and can dance and sing. I happen to also think that he somewhat resembles a younger James Brown, at least in this video he does to me <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKCsUWx-QoA>;.
I'm curious as to what the rest of you think, and who could have been cast.

He has fairly decent acting chops, he's very creative, he was a kid star, so he's well known enough to draw a big crowd that would go see it for him as well as for the main character, kinda like with 2003's Ray. And more importantly, he can dance. Well. He and James share some other real-life similarities also. A role like this would've been perfect for him.

Who else besides Chadwick Boseman who did a fantastic job? ??? Uhm...I honestly can't think of anybody else. The only other quality actor who I think could sing and dance would be Jamie Foxx. But, I'm glad they got a relative unknown to play the part.
