Why does every PA fan hate the 4th one?

OK, I will admit that this isn't my favorite horror franchise, but I have seen the previous 5 PA movies on DVD to prepare for this one.

So, I went to imdb after watching each installment, and everyone here seems to rate PA4 the lowest.

Why is it the most hated?
The quality of it is (IMO) on similar levels to the previous two sequels that came before. And it was the first movie since PA 1 to NOT be a prequel.

It is not a great movie by any means, but at least it is consistent with the rest of the franchise unlike TMO, which is the only movie that I found unenjoyable.

Am I missing something?

I don't know. I don't hate the 4th one. It's not my favorite of the series, but I didn't hate it. It had it's moments, like when she knocked down the garage door using the car as a battering ram to escape being killed by carbon-monoxide poisoning.

The ending for me was weird and didn't seem as if that was the original ending. I almost wondered if we were later going to find out that they sent different endings with different copies of the movie to theaters, sort of like "Clue." It was just weird because she was getting dragged out of her room and then it cuts to her running to the house across the street. There was no explanation to how she got away from it.

I did think the girl that played "Alex" was really good in the part as was the guy that played her boyfriend. I was sad to hear that the guy who played the dad in it passed away not long after it was released. Really sad that he couldn't have been that old too.

I didn't mind the forth one, I thought it was the last of the good ones. Marked Ones and Ghost Dimensions were awful

They way it took a neighbours perspective was a different approach since the first 3 were all interlinked within the family

As an ardent fan of the series, I don't hate PA4, but I do think it's possibly the biggest disappointment. It had so much potential, had a great build up throughout it, but it just flies off the rails in the end whent hey reveal that Hunter/Wyatt business. It doesn't really advanced the story in any significant way; in fact, I think it unnecessarily complicates the entire storyline and made it even harder for Ghost Dimension to try to make sense of everything. I give it higher marks, though, for good chemistry between the two leads. Kathryn Newton is a great young actress (see Supernatural) and some levity/fun dialogue throughout the movie.

Ghost Dimension, however, fails across the board on almost every level. It almost feels like a self-parody. Truly disappointing. I'm racking my brain right now to find one thing that is actually redeeming about it.... I enjoyed the use of young Katie/Kristie, but they didn't do enough with them nor did their attempts to tie it into PA3 make much sense. It only raised more questions than it answered.

I haven't seen part 5 yet, but I put part 4 as the third best of the franchise, behind part 3 and the marked ones. The original is unbearable on repeated viewings, and even though it was effective when I first saw it in the theater, the third one was even more effective, and has the most story depth of the original 4, if you ask me.

I think 4 is the 2nd best in the series, 3 being the best.

I am an avid horror film fan and I feel that most people just don't get it.

Very good realistic acting and creative updated scares via Laptop cams and Xboxes.

Liked seeing Katie's cameo.

The little boy was ultra creepy and believable.

Just watched 5 and it is by far the weakest.
