Eddie Redmain as a "hardman"? Suspension of disbelief gone

Eddie is an actor, and his expertise is "pretending" to be other people.

He's believable as a woman, as Stephen Hawking, as a wizard in Harry Potter world.

But as a "hardman" it's just too uncanny valley, unbelievable, far-fetched.

He looks 7 stone with wet clothing, a jaw made of paper, and has ladies hands.

Even Denis Villeneuve struggled to pull it off with Timothy Chalamet in Dune. And moments earlier he made us believe somebody was riding on the back of a space worm! Making Chalamet a tough guy was one special effect too far.

If there's any Redmain hand-to-hand combat with anybody that's not a woman, a small child or Peter Dinklage, and he wins, the suspension of disbelief is too much to handle.

Redmain would probably lose in a fight with Paddington Bear.

I did raise a Roger Moore-style eyebrow when I heard the casting.

He’s very similar to the Jackal in the original 1973 movie - Edward Fox. Did you see this movie or read the book because Redmayne is a really good choice. I think you’re assuming this “hardman” persona on your own when this isn’t the case at all. He’s not Reacher or Bourne.

reply

Yeah. I mean, Edward Fox was the same as Redmayne. Unassuming m at first glance. One would think that would be the perfect cover for an assassin.

reply

Yes. Slight, quick, and cold-blooded.
And in the movie and novel, verbatim: blond, tall, foreigner, jackal.

This is hilarious. Thanks for the guffaw. For me I've seen Red in to many other movies and feel kind of like the OP on Red winning hand to hand combat.

Another privately educated luvvie getting the role.

reply

that's why there was literally no hand to hand combat. they made it look like he couldnt physically overpower anyone and when given the chance he never tried. he's a weapons specialist.

reply

Redmayne is a little puff from Eton college. He couldn't beat my gran.

Never seen a hard days graft in his life. Never been in a pub where it kicked off. Never went to an after party at a house on a dodgy housing estate where people are congregating in the kitchen snorting coke and somebodies talking about stabbing someone.

Soft as shite.
