Of course they spoil it with the race / sex swap detective

Oh so predictable ๐Ÿ™„

So long as she does a good job in the role, what does it matter? Have only seen the first episode so far and I have no complaints.

Edit: Okay, she got progressively worse, annoying and just wrong in the role - I would have continued to have zero issue if she had done the role well but she didn't. Race and gender still not an issue, just talent.

reply

She is a good actress but her character is all clichรฉs. After about 15 minutes I started fast-forwarding her scenes - they were so predictable.

reply

she doesn't. she runs around with her fat ass looking ridiculous. her facial expressions are annoying. she's ugly as hell.

reply

But...but...but...it's purely because she gave the best audition...she was the best fit for the role...she truly embodied the character...I'll think of some more, hang on...

reply

And she wasnโ€™t white.

That grabbed our attention right off.

reply

I thought conservatives weren't the ones obsessed with race.

reply

Reacting to the actions/choices of those that are.

reply

if that lets you sleep at night knowing you are better...

reply

I saw this trailer and immediately decided no way. This is the same black chick put in the last James Bond movie because we need to teach these bros a lesson. Your audience is men deal with it.

reply

I've come to the conclusion that TV and movie producers don't want male viewers any more. Why else would they go to so much effort to remove anything that might make us watch, even in IPs that are naturally most attractive to men and boys? See Star Wars, Dr Who, Godzilla, etc. And apparently this is fine because wanting to see beautiful women or competent men makes us bigots.

We know that good will triumph over evil in this show, which means a black woman defeating a white man. Everything is political nowadays.

reply

You've got to have some believability to it. No I don't want to see women who act like men or are barely 5ft tall beating up dudes twice their size.

reply

If you are talking about the black actress who plays the MI6 character she is absolutely believable and perfectly cast. No, she is not Lebel in original who was just a really good French detective good at tracking. But the original was also set in 1962 after the failed assassination of de Gaulle and the French government was expecting another assassination attempt and wanted to get to the assassin before he struck again. And because de Gaulle ignored all kinds of security protection and the commemoration of the liberation of Paris during WWII was coming up, it had to be quick. This is 65 years later - there has to be some plot changes. Some cultural and social changes.

The writers did change the story for the modern day but also made the Jackal less cold-blooded and actually a better person than MI6 character (so far) who in her obsession to locate the guy, has become worse than he is. She becomes deadly with her family and her colleagues. Sheโ€™s a force to be reckoned with and as she is tough, smart and big and actually not very likable because she is responsible for so many innocent deaths. It all works. Give it a chance. See the original if you havenโ€™t seen it and then give this one a try. Itโ€™s entertaining and thrilling. Of course, the first one, the 1973 is on best movie lists, but this one is fun. If all you did was watch a trailer or see a poster, it really narrows a view.

reply

stop lying. she's terrible in this. also cultural and social changes? are women soldiers and cops now? no they're still not. they're only mascots and can barely do the job correctly. unless human genetics get a huge change, it will still be the same thing 10000 years from now, nevermind 50 years.

reply

I can see youโ€™re not a movie buff.

Where are you from?

reply

i am in fact a movie buff and that's why my standards are actually high. you're either lying, as in shilling for DEI dogshit, or you havent actually seen that many productions. there is no way that woman was good in this role. it doesnt matter where i'm from.

reply

You might have standards but I am not sure they are high and they are really just your preferences. This series is entertaining - itโ€™s not great. The movie was. What is your opinion on the 1973 original?

I canโ€™t tell if you have seen the series or just the trailer? If you did see the series - how many episodes? I canโ€™t tell you if you donโ€™t like women in anything where they are in leadership roles - like Prime Suspect or Homeland? Or you just donโ€™t like black women in anything.

If you are such a movie buff - what are the last comments youโ€™ve made on this website of movies that you liked.

reply

you wish sooooo fucking bad that i'm that type so you can do some easy layup and win the argument hur hur prove you were right and shit. stfu you fucking retard. of course i've watched this show. it's good in spite of all the vagina shit. the original movie pales in comparison because of its archaic acting and pacing. everyone moves slow and the jackal acts almost goofy. the idea of how cool something looks have changed dramatically. as for homeland, it was extremely good. i dont mind black women but they're not casting their the best nowadays. if you don't reply with something moderately intelligent, i'm blocking you after this. it's a total waste of time talking to you. you sound like the biggest fucking idiot.

reply

YOU ARE QUITE THE ASS.๐Ÿ˜

reply

did i say anything that wasn't true?

reply

YUP...THE ENTIRETY OF YOUR POST.

reply

so women are soldiers and cops now? where? when was the last time women had a 5050 participation in a war? are they making actual arrests in the civilian world? all i see is them issuing citations and waiting for men to come make the arrest. tell me i'm wrong. i'm dying to see your mental gymnastics here.

reply

MY AUNT WAS A POLICE OFFICER FOR 30 YEARS....I HAVE A GOOD FEMALE FRIEND WHO SERVED IN IRAQ....YOU ARE AN IDIOT.

reply

and? a few female soldiers? a female cop who cant arrest anybody who resists? fuck off. like i said they're mascots.

reply

LMAO...YOU WERE WRONG AND YOU ALSO HAPPEN TO BE AN ASSHOLE...GOOD WORK.

reply

The Jackal is still a British male. Did you see the original โ€˜70s one? They are not following the original movie anyway. In that one there is a French detective and his assistant. But the whole premise of the original was to find who was going to assassinate de Gaulle. Plus, the Jackal was disappearing some people who were onto him like the woman who lived at that chateau and the gay guy in Paris bathhouse, not to mention the guy who did his papers and passport. Having a female as the detective is not that big of a thing since all the other stuff has changed. She is doing some reprehensible things however and is somewhat unlikable. I think sheโ€™s worse than the Jackal in how sheโ€™s leaving a trail of dead bodies. I love how there is an expanded sub-story of revenge by the Jackal over not getting paid. Like the original, there is a mole. There is a thing with the car on the road. A European travelogue. Effective torture. Gun in the boot. Elaborate disguises. And the gay encounter to hide from police. My opinion is that the ending in the novel and movies will not happen in this as they will probably go for a S2. Same as in the French Three Musketeers: Milady one.

BTW the 1973 Day of the Jackal is on many best movies lists. On Kurosawaโ€™s top 100 best movies for instance.

reply

And why is it always such an ugly woman?

reply

male gaze. men arent allowed to feel any sexual pleasure from media. they can only get it from women in real life so women can have the power. that's why women are dressing nastier than ever and if you complain, that's misogyny but the depiction of a woman in media HAS to be conservative.
